Where did that tree come from?

Looks like the bumper hit the tree, pushed the truck to the side and then the tree caught the tire and forced the truck back into the tree, messing up the hood and fender. The truck bounced backwards and got hooked by the bumper. Does not have to be that quick to get that damage.

    Reverse / Backup Camera

TehTDK, you are right off course with the side curtains. For max visual effect, the "narrow overlap crash" (outside of the trailer frame) shows a car going under the right side of a trailer, with the driver getting the full impact (and being decapitated). More realistically, the car would...

    Reverse / Backup Camera

With a big butt like that, one or more camera's surely is a good and needed thing. Just sensors would not work in this case. As a short side-step on safety, in EU countries, you would need to have an under-ride guard at the "real rear end of your truck". These under-ride guards prevent that...

    Reverse / Backup Camera

I would go for backup sensors like the are now installed in most modern cars since the early 2000s. Let's you be more focused on what's happening to the side while not worrying about the back. The sensor gets active when you hit the reverse gear, and bleeps increase in speed the closer you get...

    safety reminder

We often have students in our blacksmith workshops for getting experience (we are not a static museum but trying to keep traditional crafts alive, also commercially. One guy disregarded our standard safety instructions and used a flex-grinder without glasses. Got a rebound piece in his eye...

    Removing a non-functional M51 dump bed

Bump. Spring took a step forward and two back but is coming up again. So I am getting ready to get the truck into the repair shop. To repeat: how do I get a dump bed off a dump truck while leaving the sub frame and hydraulics attached to the truck WITHOUT functional hydraulics? We can raise...

oak runners under deuce bed question

These runners also have holes in them to allow space for the rivets on top of the main frame. Without them, the bed would actually rest on the rivets and wear them down. That could end up like your frame falling apart

They really are impressive! Nice video here

best diesel engine to swap into early-model CJ5?

We got a 1971 Atlas shovel with a Deutz F4L 912 air-cooled engine together with our M51A2. These engines are indestructible. Thirty years old, two year's outside not running and almost empty fuel tank. Some ether in the air intake and a heavy battery and off you go, no problem. The linked...

    M923 on fire

Both the guys tracking the martens and the guy I was working for said somehting like that. I decided to believe them without testing:popcorn:. We did, however, tasted the Canadian culprit and I can tell you that the meat of an old male porcupine is not really on the top of my "must try again"...

    M923 on fire

That sucks big-time but its good you figured out what the probable cause was. In the Netherlands - and many other places - Martens are a well-know cause of car damage by dedicated chewing through power cables. I once joined some colleagues radio-tracking several martens and we observed one...

    Allison M916 + Mk48 Cab = 6x6 "FEMTT"

I planned to get an early night today and your thread was the last one I was going to read before sleeping. Ended up reading all 25 pages of this thread (that's the bad of not checking for nice threads every day). [thumbzup]

    G749 preservation

Bombardier Illtis is basically a VW Illtis. I looked both up a bit more, the DAf I think is a bit lower on its wheels and the front fenders go further down and the front is lower than the Illtis. Not sure, but my gut feeling is that the Illtis would be the better on in terrrain, the YA 66 is...

    your camping trailer loadout recommendations

Something like these camping trailers were very poplar in the Netherlands in the 70s and 80s. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlkFcVz3-Y0&feature=player_embedded The first 1-2 minutes are sale blabla but then it gets interesting. This version has the sleeping area up high with all the other...

    Reduction of forum sections

Testing forums and website help together also? Mechanical upgrades can go up. To be honest, I really had to look for it where it was, hangs a bit lonely completely at the end. Next possibilities Tatra under Russian-east-bloc Volvo under other non-US Unimog under German OK with the rest of...

    Daf

I found another pic of that truck, with a little bit better view of what is in the back. That 50 cal gun probably is a plastic replica. More about DAF and DAF miltary trucks you can also find on the website of the DAF Club of America. Most of that forum is dedicated to the civil little...

    Daf

11Echo, where is the location CT W.R. Nice DAF Y126. Where was the picture taken? Not really important, but do you have any more details on that car? What interests me is that this car has a Dutch military license plate of a newer type (yellow color). The plates started with KL or LM and...

Where to post Dutch and other European MVs not fitting the sub-forums.

Maybe the easiest would be by continent with some historic or logical exception. Hence a few less German sub-forums but European MVs and maybe an Asian sub-forum (if there are any people active or interested in that part of the world). European could include all but the Germans? That is...

    Daf

Let me open the new sub-forum with a line on this Dutch truck builder with some amazing achievements through the 20th century including some world-class trucks, the first and only factory car that drives as quick backwards as it drives forward. Last but definitely not least: an impressive record...
