Pics will come tomorrow, but here is what happened.
Already last year, we had tried to tighten the adjustment nut without any success on the free play. Today, we took off the front wheels, and kept turning the steer first without engine and later with engine running. More and more free play...
I saw that one already. Should have repeated that I have am working on a M51-A2. Unfortunately, the location of the steering house and the way its fixed (and probably everything else including types) in that M809 thread differs from the situation in the M39 series, or at least in my truck...
Have a look at this thread. What I read here looks too familiar with what I have. I will jack up the wheels tomorrow and check again, but I am afraid it needs a new gear.
One thing I was thinking of. If the adjustment screw has been too loose too long, can it be that the lever has slipped over...
The Bear is back from hibernation and back to work (as of tomorrow).
Did anybody ever pulled the steering house itself out of the truck (5-ton with Ross Hydrapower), opened it up and replace the innards. Not talking about the hydraulic part, but about the mechanic part of it. Pics please??
By then, I hope my truck will be in the Czech Republic already and in a much better state. I'm leaving for the Netherlands in a few hours to continue the work.
:drool: Don't force yourself. I'll add to the temptation and make you a deal. We split the costs of transport: your new truck to the Netherlands and mine from the Netherlands to here. Must be cheaper than trying to find two single transports.:beer: any takers
Not by me, so no violation, I hope.
:jumpin::jumpin:
Just thought I should put this link here (hope I did not do it earlier already). If nothing else, it gives a nice impression on what kind of stuff you can buy in the Czech Republic at this moment. Some really really nice things but man, are...
Just wondering. Why would they make the M123 with a drive-train geared ONLY for off-road?
According Olive Drab: "Its gearing restricts it use to off-road field activity, not line haul." Anybody here on SS actually ever owned on?
I left mine in the Netherlands in the cabin of my truck, that explains my difficulties. (could not find a smile with thick glasses, this will have to do)
For example, the avatar of Citizensoldier. Can't make heads nor tails from it, but it almost looks like something indecent is going on between a truck, a chopper, and something else in the middle. makes you wonder. :-?:-D
Mind you, there were days that people thought $5,000 for a completely NEW car was already outrageous rofl (like in the mid 1960s).
Law of demand and supply: if you need it, its expensive, if you want to sell it, its useless junk worth nothing.
almost identical pictures here So M123 .
The Olive-drab website says that that thing - legal or not - is not properly geared for highway use, only for off-road. Maybe the previous owner found that out also and is sick of it already. Or he could use it for his land-clearing work and now has...
Thanks for the tips, but I am located in the Czech Republic, Europe. That means shipping the whole thing to another continent. That might make it a wee bit more expensive then any of us would like to pay for a piece of metal.
To be honest, I did not check prices for shipping, but given weight...
Help needed with remaking an M5xA2 exhaust
As you can see, my exhaust is a bit kaput. Tried to find replacement in the Netherlands and here, no dice. So it will be a welding job. I thought to take several tube parts with bends in them, and then start welding them together, or just weld some...
