I think I know that bridge. Didn't much care for Balad so I tried to avoid going, but it seems like i when i did get over that way I always crossed it at night so I never got a picture.
Hard to beat that for a solid running 813 w/w. What's the scrap value these days? I'm NOT advocating scrapping it, but if you got it for less than scrap value...
Newer Army 5 tons use 1400's (M939A1/A2 series) or 395/85R20 (FMTV). I believe the singled USMC 809 5 tons used 1400s as well. Not sure what the solution is for 1600s.
Same "handholds" are on M809 5tons as well. I say they're lift handles like the rear corner handles on MB's and GPW's. You mean you guys don't manhandle your deuce or 5 tons out of mud holes when youre stuck?
I've also been to numerous movement, ship load, rail load and air load schools and the little grab handles were never mentioned as tie down points. All the tie down points and approved tie down methods are listed in various TM's/FM's and I don't recall seeing the little grab handles among them...
The short guy in the photos further add to the perspective peculiarity. He makes the Halflinger look like a regular sized truck and the Kraz like a even larger monstrosity. Fun pics! [thumbzup]
Fort Gordon is now the same. No driving your purchase off post. They will let you load within their lot, tow with a tow bar, or drive with some sort of temp tag. The reason given to me and another member was that you can't drive an unregistered vehicle on post, so GL will not accept the...
Funny this topic just came up. I was chatting with a friend this last week about that plant. He retired from GM about two years ago and had worked at the Hydramatic plant (former Ford B-24 plant) for his entire career. He spent quite a bit of time during that last 25 years or so exploring the...
Chief, that wasn't the C-17 in '05 that the driver drove right off the end of the runway was it? I wish I had a picture of that. I didn't get out to see it but on the CJTF76 commanders update brief (theater wide) someone posted a great photo of it face down in the dirt with crumpled nose gear...
Something I consider depending on the item I purchase is the warranty or expected customer service. I'll pay more for something that comes with good customer service or an iron clad standard warranty. Even if the item purchased isnt likely to fail I enjoy taking my business to the same place...
I never even thought about aesthetics, but yea the 813 wins. The 939 series isnt bad at all, but everyday I look at the 813 and think, "dam, that's a sexy looking old truck".
Very cool. Good post dinhchua. Looks like your idea of fun is the same as ours.
I've always wondered about the MV hobby in VN considering all the stuff that was left behind. I look forward to more pics...
