IMHO the only reason every HMMWV that comes out of surplus does not need a complete brake overhaul is because of the DOT 5 fluid, every vehicle with DOT 3 that I have seen that has sat for 5-10 years has crap for a brake system and I have seen a bunch of them.
Yes if you get water in it you can...
That would not have anything to do with the trans light, if the lamp is good then ether the wires have an issue (there should be +12V on one side in the run position) or the TCM is bad.
Actually if you do not have a TCM as in retrofitting earlier vehicles with the 100/200A alternator grounding...
Your truck has a 4 speed so there should be a wire from the 14V stud on the regulator to the 12V connection between the batteries, without it the batteries will be unbalanced and die an early death.
I doubt very seriously the gen not having a ground wire will start a fire, the gen will ground...
I am not a big fan of the supplemental grounding harness, IMHO it can create unintentional ground loops that can cause problems.
Everything on a Humvee has a specific ground path, the body itself is not used for grounding, everything grounds through a small number of grounding points.
The plan...
Yes they are somewhat finicky, mostly caused by bad ground connections.
Start at the batteries and check the large cables first, there are bulkhead connections though the battery box that should be checked/cleaned on both sides, then the ground cables to the starter and the back of the engine...
Welcome to the SS forums!!
3C is the gen to body ground, what is the small wire number? what was it connected to?
Also it would be helpful if you include the model number of your truck
My advice would be get a 6.5L NA, I did the 6.2/6.5L GEP turbo swap in front of a 6L80 and the resulting increase in performance was negligible, no mods needed for the NA and with the turbo there was more increase in heat than performance.
Did you use the 242 or 218 TC and if so how did you...
The one on the back of the TC is the rear transfer case seal, usually not a big problem to replace.
The one on the rear of the engine could be a rear engine seal as it does not look red, but it could be simply oily water or even diesel from the engine valley.
pull the dog house and inspect the...
I made a trip in the DuraVee to Texas Humvee's shop in Mico TX Friday to help with some electrical troubleshooting on a M1151A1.
I decided as I hit the road at 3:45AM to take the scenic route up Hwy 181 instead of the boring ride up I37, I did think to myself that I would be taking a somewhat...
No the -80 transmissions have the same output splines (including the 6L80), you can put a 242 behind the 3L80, in fact I think all A1s and R1s have 242s there is a different output shaft (TC output shaft) on the 242s they used behind the 4L80
IIRC they never put a 4L80 behind the 6.2L but I...
