Ok , I had the same thoughts RED did with post #12 on going to a smaller winch . That winch should drag a M715 around alright , but on a 5 ton I think it would fail fairly quick.
Are you working on a HMMWV or a M35A2 , you posted a article for the HMMWV but thread is in the deuce forum

There are 2 batteries . Since you are totally green to these I would recommend downloading and reading the operators TM . This will give you basic knowledge of the vehicle and should be done before anyone operates one . it can save you costly repairs from improper operation and a safety factor...
