I had a deuce come out of the La. Forestry Service with a set of those on them. From what I recall they were 10x20 Firestones but those look like 9x20s.
Where in Texas did yall pick up at? Also 4mpg sounds a tad low for a bob-tailing tractor. My smoking 818 got about 3.5mpg and the injection timing was way off, rolling coal all the way. I'd say scope that out when you can.
I haven't done an OD truck(yet) but here is straight CARC 383 green and the 3 color woodland camo for comparison. It's really how much do you want your vehicle to "pop".
Edit: The sun puts a lot of shine in the first picture. Both pics are within a week of painting.
Pull the tach and get a replacement, opening them is a nightmare. Used ones can be had for about $25 +/-. The fuel gauge is going to be a long battle, so as supermechanic said and hunt for bad sections of wire first. Now for the passenger front tire wear I can shine on as I'm having the same...
Runk is on the ball with this one. The length is 2ft longer and the tie downs will be off. shortening it is possible (like most things) but it isn't simply trimming it off. The bows and elbows are identical, I just put a set on a deuce and m813 this week.
I wouldn't touch them without a title and even then I wouldn't offer more than scrap. You will spend more time and funds getting one of them up to spec than just buying a decent truck else where. I'd avoid them unless you need them for parts or have the axles already sold and can pull them.
wreckerman893 is spot on with his advice, in this case having it hauled would be ideal. Most 900 series trucks from this location just need a jump but this older m818 has a fair deal more risk (not to mention being a converted m810 leaving more to investigate).
The 5 ton is bigger in every way and that hurts the wallet. I own both and will tell you the m35a2 is more need fitting to own/operate for the average joe. Mileage according to my GPS for the m813 is 5.4 MPG and the M35A2 is 9.8MPG, now factor in condition of the engine and if you cut your fuel...
If you have a hard top I suggest you hit the top first then hood of the truck. The bed is the easiest but takes the most paint (assuming you do the underside and the inside walls not including the floor). Leave the fenders and steps for last as you may need to stand on them for touch ups or hard...
