Also you will want to get some good quality heavy duty jack stands or some good wood cribbing to support the vehicle while working on it , never trust the jack by itself.
Two issues with your question
1. 1988 was the last year produced for the A2 (Air Force trucks duel circut brakes)
2. 6500 original miles, the way the military swaps gauges its hard to claim original miles other than for that odemeter.

As a "professional restorer" you should have factory color codes by each year and special order contract . So if you are disputing the information provided here please provide the correct factory documents to back up your claims.
I believe he was refering to the crank rotation . Viewing the motor from the front it should turn clockwise. A lot of marine engines turn counter-clockwise depending on the application.

That sounds like a lack of maintenance on your part , either shrink tube or liquid electrical tape would solve that problem . It would only take a few minutes and a few dollars to fix.
If you let it leak you will end up with oil soaked brake shoes (that will need to be replaced) and still have to fix the seals.
Do the inner and outer seals .
