The system you show looks like a modern version of the early Mustang AC. Seems like I've also seen similar systems in a few other early muscle cars and 70's model Chevy trucks.
I would make sure I was legal, then invite the Code folks over for a visit. Once they verify you are legal, they should leave you alone.
At least that's the way it works around here.
Maybe you need to read "So you want to buy a Deuce" by Clinto. You may know him as a site moderator, and I hear he's a "Wonderful human being". He's also creator of the Georgia Rally.
I can't find the thread it was published in, so here is a PDF copy:
1. Don't know without seeing it. Sorry.
2. Same.
3. Between some big gears and the counter drive assembly, it needs a lot of oil. You don't want to suck a "hole" in the oil driving down the road and toast everything.
Back when slide-in pickup campers were more common, having a boot between the camper and the sliding cab window was a popular option.
It was small, but when I was a kid I would crawl/dive through ours. My dad wasn't all that enthusiastic about me diving through it when we were going down the...
The Flex-A-Lite Mojave heater is pretty awesome. It's around $63 from JCWhitney.
A friend of mine installed one in the back of his work van, and it works great.
Correction: the heater is $247, the plenum box to install defroster hose is $63.
He just has the heater, not the plenum box. Sorry for...
If it could wait 4 weeks, I can get it as far as Knoxville. Maybe even Chattanooga.
If it could wait until the Ga. Rally, I might be able to bring it all the way.
You know Durhamtown Plantation is only 500 miles from Richmond Va.
Hint, hint.;-) http://www.steelsoldiers.com/steel-soldiers-rally/61277-2011-ga-rally-definite-dates.html
Seriously, glad you got it running. Sometimes it's a simple, little thing that can trip you up.
The problem with drawing too much attention from our legislators is the environmental movement. They have a very powerful lobby, and could push to have everything that gets less than 100 MPG, or doesn't have 15 air bags, destroyed. (OK a SLIGHT exaggeration)
Look at Wisconsin.
Here is a cleaner diagram:
Edit: I forgot to add the cold start circuit connection. You DO NOT want to send 24V to the cold start heater, it will probably burn out. The diagram has been updated.
There should have been 2-12v in each box, for a total of 4-12v. 2 sets in series and parallel. That creates the 24v with twice the cranking power.
To run with 2-12v, leave out the cables marked 68-7, and connect the wire marked 6 to the terminal with the cables marked 48 and 49.
That may be...
You're right. I was stuck in "deuce and a half" meaning 2 1/2 ton thinking.
2 1/2 ton is cross country, 5 ton on road.
The payload capacities appear to be the same for the M342A2, which is the M44 version of a dump, and the M35A2.
I don't know if the M342A2 dump bed is the same as the M817...
I'm going to assume you mean an M817 dump.
The dump bed assembly weighs about 3600# empty. It would be like driving around loaded all the time.
With a standard payload of only 5000#, that would mean you could only carry 1400# of stuff.
The dump bed assembly also raises the center of gravity...
