5 ton wrecker crane and winch in a deuce?

This depends on the state. VT may be like that, NH is far from it. You absolutely can NOT exceed the MFG's rated capacity. The state has the data for most vehicles in their system. If you disagree with those numbers, you better have a factory data plate showing the GVW for a DOT officer to see...

5 ton wrecker crane and winch in a deuce?

Keep in mind that is most likely non-commercial. As soon as you hook up to something that is not owned by you, your insurance would be void. As for the 9000 lb. weight of the crane body, that is 1000 lbs. below the HIGHWAY limit for a Deuce. Add anything to it and you are over the limit. If...

5 ton wrecker crane and winch in a deuce?

I priced commercial ins. here in NH a few years ago, and found it to be insanely high. For comparison, my Deuce costs me under $200/yr for liability. Our Durango is a little over $300/year. Commercial liability for a 1987 12,600 lb. rollback truck was going to be a bit over $6000/yr. I ended up...

    Fuel filter seal sources?

I got my secondary and final filters off and the secondary one wasn't even installed correctly! The top of the filter wasn't lined up and seated properly, so the top of the filter was offset about 1/2" of center. The can bolt was VERY tight, and the rear of the filter can had been leaking...

    Towing m35a2 with m35a2

Not a Deuce, but I had a tow bar partially fail while towing one pickup with another. The rear truck ended up heading toward the side of the road (and LONG steep drop) while taking the rear of my truck with it. I was finally able to get everything stopped just before they went down the ditch...

    Fuel filter seal sources?

I'm due to leave for the VT rally on Friday afternoon, and want to change my fuel filters first. I have the filters, but I can't locate the seals. From searches on this site I can only find two part numbers for Napa, but I have called 2 different Napa stores and both told me the numbers aren't...

    GMMVC Vermont Rally

Are you bringing that project Dodge explosives truck? That looks like a sweet project! Even unfinished it looks great! Jim

    GMMVC Vermont Rally

2 1/2 working days left, and I am still trying to track down my power loss. Going to change filters again tomorrow and need to put my turbo tubing and air cleaner back on. And of course dig out camping gear and start packing up. Jim

Sprag or Air **** which is better.

Sprag- Go into the nasty, get half way stuck, and HOPE it kicks in. Airshift: Flip lever, it DOES kick in, you don't get stuck. Except for a historically correct restored truck of a particular time period, for street use, I would go airshift all the way. Jim

    The ampibious Deuce!!

Well I was originally going to comment on the flag not being on the right front corner where it belongs, but then I realized...when submerged, that IS the front right corner! If it was on the right front bumper or fender, it would be one wet flag... Jim

Sprag or Air **** which is better.

:ditto: My '62 has the sprag, and it's not working in forward. I can't locate a sprag for an affordable price, so it's going to get swapped out for an airshift. I was hoping to keep this truck as original as possible, but my source for the sprag didn't work out. Jim

    M35A2s in Vietnam? what year?

According to records, my 1962 Deuce was converted to A2 in 1967, and was equipped with the turbo Continental multifuel at that time. I can't get enough info off the engine data plate to give any further specifics. This truck didn't go to Vietnam from what I can find, it served in Germany most of...

    The ampibious Deuce!!

Cooool! Glad those 40 year old seals worked better than my 49 year old windshield rubbers. Jim

dual 52" tires on a single axle deuce

I wish we could get more of the tall and narrow tires they use in other countries. This applies to everything from light pickups to our military vehicles. On a heavy vehicle, forget flotation...tall and narrow work great. Just look at most of the videos of the Russian trucks going nasty...

    Leo stopped me

Here the registered GVW is mainly for tax purposes. I don't see why if someone is willing to register a vehicle for less, and not load past the GVW, that they should have to pay for weight they are never going to use. But the law is the law. By the way, according to our law, the housewife who...

    Leo stopped me

Well being an armchair lawyer...lol...I'll toss out what I see. I don't have the actual law to go by, but if the quote from the newspaper article is correct, everything above 7000 gvw RATING is banned in certain areas. It says nothing about what it is registered as, what it actually weighs empty...
