I'm gonna jump in here with a problem I'm having, since there seems to be some good knowledge in this thread. I have a D turbo and what I'm told is a "g" pump. My problem is that my truck is very low on power, very low on boost (2psi on a steep hill at 1600 rpms), and doesn't like to rev past...
If its an experiment in "can it be done", it has. I have to question "why"? The engine is large enough that you would have to power half your neighborhood to come anywhere near being efficient. If you are powering your home, you will end up using a lot of fuel to do it. true, the fuel can be...
I believe that is max. RPM. 2700 is peak HP, but the engine will turn faster than that.
Rust. It was up in this area for 3 years, now the rockers and floors are gone, the frame is getting quite rusty, the hatch is shot...there is no resurrecting it. I might put the Cummins in a good 2000 Jeep...
If you were to do an Allison, you would want the 1000 series, 6-speed with overdrive that GM uses behind the D-max. Now you are talking a lot more money, and a controller and wiring to operate it. These things are available, but costly. And if you are going that far and spending that much, you...
I don't try it. Some say synthetic will burn, but most of the info I have read warns not to try it. I'm sure if its just a small amount mixed in it wouldn't be too bad, but I wouldn't want to put a few gallons into a tank.

I usually plan on losing a quart with a radiator change. It's usually less, like half a quart, but I've had it be closer to a quart a couple times.
Jim
I'm not sure which model Allison the A3 uses, but you can get 4-speed versions very cheaply from an old school bus or other similar vehicle. I was offered one in excellent condition from a guy i know who owns a small bus company for $500. You can find them even cheaper if you look.

I hate reading about things like this. What happened to property owner's rights? Where you could do just about anything you wanted to on your own property, as long as you didn't put someone else in danger?
In my area it's not the HOA you have to worry about, but the Zoning Board and selectmen...
Once the radiator is back in and everything is hooked up, fill the radiator with coolant to your desired blend. I'd suggest a 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water. Once full start the truck and let it idle and warm up, leaving the radiator cap off. Watch the fluid and you'll eventually see it drop...
Wow...I have to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow. I'll start with that black "2009 Protector".
The nice thing is, there is a vehicle there for every price range- turn key, drive away; or "do it yourself kit". I see the racks of bodies, engines, axles, tires.........

I spent lots of time on the KLR forums and upgraded every weak link that was ever mentioned. First oil change was Rotella dino at 500 miles, at 1500 miles I switched to Rotella synthetic and changed it every 2k-3k miles after, usually the shorter end of that except if I was in the middle of a...
After a roughly 2400 mile trip to Kentucky and back it blew a seal and lost all the oil (drained out low and I never saw it leak), and seized on my way to work. It essentially needs a new engine, and used KLR engines cost a fortune. its just not worth fixing. I can find a used 650 in good shape...
Yea, I read too many stories on here about companies that didn't want to handle military vehicles, so I made sure I mentioned that first. I think we got a bit of a price break because we have another vehicle with them, but my wife was ticked because my Deuce was cheaper to insure than her '99...
Interesting! Brain has been sufficiently updated.
I have a dead '06 650. I love riding the bike, but i hate the poor reliability. The power wasn't great, but usable. I wouldn't want to be on a 250 though...
I guess a pic would fit in this site well. No, its not a military model...

There is a "but" I should have thrown in. Automatics have a large power loss factor. They consume power just to operate. Different autos have different efficiency levels, and the Allison really isn't all that bad, but it still reduces the power to the rear wheels. Ask someone who's driven both...
If they cover VT, you could check with Concord Group. They covered my Deuce. I explained it was military, the weight, and they didn't care. They just asked what it was similar to, and I explained it was kind of like a big farm truck, except military. They were happy, and I got liability for...
Sounds like it would be a good candidate for an engine swap. If all he used was the engine, or engine/trans, I would toss a 12v Cummins in there and have a nice truck.
Jim
There are 2 things to look at: 1. Will it fit in the truck? and 2. Will it attach to the engine?
1. Yes it will fit in the truck. as far as I know, the A3 has the same transfer case in the same location as the A2. They may use a different jackshaft, but that would be easy to cure. So the...
Good points, and GL also agreed to handle this process knowing what the process was like. In my opinion, taking the money up front is a greedy thing to do. GL knows it could be months between auction close and the approval. If they aren't willing to hold off for their payment, then they...
