    turns over but wont start

Did it get cold again before you tried to restart it? If so, pull your glow plugs and check if they are swollen. Before that, do a search here and read through the section about diagnosing the glow plug circuits. Lastly, if that all checks out, think about fuel issues.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Got the glow plugs out!!! 4 on passenger side were swollen, had to pull two injectors. Duroterms are in. New, heat shrinked spade terminals on the wires. Been spraying bed liner inside the cab, on doors and back wall, to quiet it. Tomorrow the new 24v gear reduction starter, put the 2 new...

    Compression glow plug removal?

4 of 8 glow plugs were swollen inside a week after they were installed. My mechanic was looking for a removal tool. I got sick of waiting and pulled them myself, sort of. Passenger side back two are stuck. One broke with the tip stuck in the hole. Will engine compression blow it out? How...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

I used foil faced bubble insulation / heat shield with fiberglass matting in the dished-in area's. I had it on hand. Bought the retainers at Advanced. 18 per box. Bought 2 boxes. Drilled a few extra holes and used them all. I have rubber boots over my battery terminals, just in case.

    Swollen plugs already.

He swapped the heads, so doing the plugs was easy at that point. I believe he put something new in them. Monday I'll call and see if he has a plug puller. The truck needs to be re-ringed anyway. All for the defective kat freeze plug heater.

    M1009 Exhaust

I have two flow-tecs from flea bay on mine. Good, heavy wall mufflers. The pipes came from Summit and are to fit a small block chevy in a k30. They fit alright. I preferred the ones I had bent at the local shop for my 1009 better though. On it I had two stainless flea bay mufflers that...

    Swollen plugs already.

Been in about a month. Went to pull one to see what the mechanic put in, and it hung up, tried the next, same. Now what? On an aside, was rolling around under it, cut out six inches of exhaust pipe on each side and installed flex pipe to allow the pipes to mate to the manifolds right. I've...

    "New Heads" Now issues.

It is longer to start. A lot longer when cold. Also, a lot of grey smoke, ?unburnt fuel, once started. I will swap out the mechanic supplied glow plugs for the Dura-Term ones I bought. Any other suggestions? History: This is the engine that over heated due to the Katz heater defective bolt...

Where then is the high idle sensor? Mine is not working, connections at the control is is fine, both green wires connected. Engine was out for a head swap, and am now having issues. No high idle, hard to start after setting a while, and they put in a 12v gear reduction starter. My 24v...

    electrical/starting issue

Find yourself a door open or seatbelt buzzer. Wire two alligator clip leads to it. Charge your battery and disconnect the ground. Place this between the ground and battery negative. It will buzz if there is a heavy short. Since you can hear it, it makes finding out what makes the short go...

    electrical/starting issue

Bad battery connections. Clean, tighten, check for cracked claps. Clean the grounds. Clean at the terminal blocks. Check your fuseable links. A long shot. Check to see if something fell onto the injection pump and shorted across a terminal there, happened to me.

    Finally got my 1008 back.

Complete engine I bought was seized, so the heads on it were used on my block. Got a little crankcase pressure now, but it runs good. Now I have an injector pump, injectors, water pump, fuel pump, exhaust manifolds, oil pump, timing gears, cam, lifters, and all that under foot. I'll likely put...
