Getting to know the various recovery manuals and a book on rigging; then practicing what you read is smart insurance. NONE of this stuff is "safe" but you can and should do everything possible to minimize the hazard. The military uses a recovery strap (AKERS) to get tanks and other armor out...
Pintle hook for a straight pull. Often, the differential doesn't like pulling in reverse so forward is always the preferred direction.
Pulling something up out of the ground... tree stump, land anchor, treasure chest... ? Still the pintle hook with one small trick thrown in; get yourself...
RE: sf97
Bite the bullet and let them correct the typo. They're the issuer and can/should do that. If you go correcting it yourself, you've just "altered" the document and that can lead to a whole new set of nightmares you don't need.
If you submit the incorrect document to your DMV, you may...
FIGHT IT.
A buddy bought a genset and was told he had to smash it up prior to load out. The reason/excuse/justification was that, in a pinch, it could be used as back-up power for a comm. station-- and therefor it was covered under the comm station's restricted classification... as a comm...
I'm a firm believer in the use of jacking pads. Their bigger footprint makes working in sandy or soft ground a lot easier and also makes using a bottle jack a lot safer. The pads are 1/4" steel plate and the piece of wood on top cuts down on the steel on steel slip factor. I made my own but...
There are some Sherwin-Williams CARC data sheets in the Tech Articles section of the library that cover spraying, reducing, clean-up, as well as MSDS info. The sheets even cover what pressures and what size tips to use; pretty good stuff.
I got a lot of good information from the guy at Alfa...
RE: Re: RE: What does CTIS offer that you can
The CTIS controller is marked; "-CAUTION- Do not change CTI setting when cornering or wheels are slipping. Damage to driveline may result". So unless you're planning on driving in a straight line on a firm surface while the CTIS does it's thing...
They're thrown by the fact that they couldn't find a sticker that's normally applied to civilian vehicles. The correct entry into that particular section of the verification form is N/A (not applicable).
After the CHP (or if you can flag down a cooperative LEO) looks it over; politely tell them...
Most pitting is from internal rust and if one shows through you can figure there are about 8 more just ready to break the surface. I'd replace all and offset any grumbling over the expense with the knowledge that you're getting off a lot cheaper than a trip to the emergency room. Heck, it's...
High temp exhaust manifold paint works as good as anything else out there but only lasts a season ot two. That would be the most authentic.
We use a slurry of powdered graphite and oil on our steam locomotive fire boxes and backheads. The oil will smoke off leaving the graphite coating which...
There's a drwg in the tech library of a Hayes wheel designed for the HEMTTs. (Titled wrong; 1100X20 should be 1000X20) Take a look at it and see if thet's the lug spacing on your wheels. If not HEMTT, maybe FMTV or LMTV.
How loud or obvious do you want it to be? There are piezo-electric devices out there for audible alerts and most of the cell phones use a micro-motor with an offset weight on the shaft to create a vibration when the motor runs.
Welcome to the site; and thanks for the wiring diagram. Lots of guys with mil. trailers have run into the same what-wire-goes-where problem and this will help a lot. A conversion jumper cable lets you keep the trailer original for mil. veh. to mil. trailer hook-ups.
On the off-chance you're...
RE: dash redo .....
Get a piece of aluminum and have the lettering silkscreened on using a "resist" ink. Then have the plate anodized.
The silkscreened lettering won't take the anodizing so when you remove the resist the lettering will show up as the plate's natural aluminum color.
Or you could...
Same gripe with the smog laws out here. A bunch of my hot rodder friends have run afoul of ARB because of "modified exhaust" or "modified induction system" on their street rods. Let's completely ignore the fact that they run cleaner than 90% of the cars on the road.
Shouldn't the point be fossil...
14 ga. for 24 volt systems is MV standard unless it's a power cable. The mil. spec. wire is available, but auto supply 14 ga. black oughta blend right in.
