Sounds like someone's early custom. Dodge kept a model (WM 300) of the military trucks for the civilian market up into the 60s if I remember right. Could be a combination of civilian and military with a dash of whatever was on hand.
Wanted to say it's a Dodge, but they were flathead sixes. Maybe a Studebaker? Looks like there is some lettering on the valve cover that might be a clue.
Yer putting me to shame here, Damon. I think I'm just gonna bury the baby HEMTT up to it's frame in the front yard and plant petunias and begonias in the bed; turn it into the world's biggest lawn ornament.
Before you get too worried, check to see that the detent ball and spring that holds it in gear are doing their job. If the bore the ball rides in is dirty or the spring is broken, it'll pop out of gear like you're describing. Take a look at the repair manual in the library section for full...
Call me old-fashioned but I just figure that if a vehicle's mine, I should have a say in who starts, or drives, or climbs on and in it; I didn't buy or build it to be an amusement park attraction.
Too bad they quit teaching manners and respect for other people's property a few decades back.
And...
Goof Off is good for sticker glue. Spray paint is usually an enamel so go after it with the appropriate remover. Not sure I'd sand CARC because the dust is hazardous and you could end up smoothing out the surface texture which is also a trademark charecteristic of CARC. A stiff bristled brush...
One thing that a lot of vehicles have that deuces don't is a way to cut off the fuel. An inline solenoid valve with hidden switch is a worthwhile consideration. Diesels are compression ignition engines and, if the engine can be turned over, will start and run even without electrical power... but...
No problems here with mine. The first batchs had problems and liked to set themselves on fire but those are pretty much all out of the loop and gone by now.
I took Bjorn's lead and run my lights off of relays that the light switch commands. Since the push-button light switch is a mini-computer...
The marker of choice is the Markal B Paintstik. It's main ingredient is linseed oil so whatever will cut it, will remove it.
CARC is pretty tough stuff so I wouldn't worry too much about hurting it... just ask the guy who's tried to remove it.
All are great ideas but none will stop a determined thief. The best you can hope is to make it difficult enough so that they move on to easier pickins'.
Multiple deterrants are good too; the stop cable lock, keyed main battery switch, door locks if applicable, a way to lock the hood, etc.; and...
RE: Re: RE: CARC paint
There are CARC data sheets in the library. The solid additives are various ground silicas and can produce very unpleasant long-term results when ingested. The catalyst for one part CARC is the moisture in the air... or in your lungs; so breathing it should be avoided at...
I just made my own slave cable with a NATO end on one end and regular jumper cable clamps on the other. Austin (beltfed34 on Ebay) had the ends but the thing that was hard for me to find were the crimp-on lugs for the NATO end. They're narrow and have the lug tab centered on the cable centerline.
The reflective tape "L"s on my deuce bed are in the lower outside corners of the tailgate.
The large delineation plates are usually applied to mud flaps or the lower outside corners of larger bodied vehicles like semi trailers. The smaller delineation plates are used on locations where there's...
Just keep doing what you're doing Kenny. It's trailers like yours that are still parked in the driveway every morning. The shiny, fancy ones seem to sprout legs fairly frequently.
For all who asked, here's what I've got. They appear to fit the HEMTTs and FMTVs but don't have the "Extension Arm Kit" to mount them to a deuce or five-ton cab.
