Right on the graph disc having to be in or the tachograph gets messed up David. However, if you don't need the graph (general handling of the tachograph while on the bench or non-commercial ops.), Argo makes a teflon disc that keeps the stylus from being damaged. That's what's currrently in mine...
Bjorn
The clock is electric and is set by opening the face to get at the adjustment knob. The tachograph and all the gauges are internally lit-- the panel lights are just to keep the mil. veh. dash panel look. The low air warning light and the high beam indicator will be functional though.
Thanks for the kind words Bill,
the additional quarter-sized holes are for gauge illumination, a low air warning and a high beam indicator.
In addition to a standard gauge set plus an addition temp. for trans., the three down the left side are exh. temp., boost, and dual needle air pressure (one...
If the back of the boss is in air then drilling all the way through for the purpose of getting at both ends of the broken bolt isn't a big problem. If it backs up to metal then leave it a blind hole. They must have done it that way for a reason. Bolts die from a variety of reasons...
RE: Re: RE: Axle Breather Valves
Kenny's right on as far as the low vents being one-way goes.
I have to run high vents as I'm using full air brake axles on the baby HEMTT and the air pots need to flow both ways in order for the brakes to apply and release. I've got some pretty good-sized vents...
Bjorn, what size is the current through hole you've drilled? From the pictures it looks like you've still got a ways to go before you get close to the threads; and, the bore hole needs to be the entire length of the broken piece as it's purpose is chiefly to relieve the inner strength so as to...
I'd try a transmission or gear shop that does manual boxes and rear axles. I think you'll find that they're sold by thread size based on the hole they screw into.
Bruce is dead-on. Nothing like a good visual inspection complete with sniff test, tire kicking and rubber hose pinch. Looked at a cherry of a truck once and with the dipstick out, the motor oil smelled like antifreeze-- not a good sign.
It's the mil. veh. version of the old adage; "When the map...
RE: oilmsampling
Don't remember which components and which trace elements go together but I do know from my years with the RR that it's not worthwhile to get too excited over one test. Review the results from several tests to determine if you've had a spike in the readings or whether some...
A hinged framework that swings over the tools, or slide-in locking bars, and keeps them from being lifted out of their cradles in the pioneer kit is about the only way I know of. Unfortunately this is a case of 'Just when you think you've idiot(thief)-proofed the system-- the world invents a...
I cheated with Bjorn's rear main job. I marked the flywheel to crank location (one bolt hole is about a 1/16th off to keep crank/flywheel balance)-- made an 8" long dowel pin that screws into one of the flywheel bolt holes and that lets you slide the flywheel out of the bellhousing so you can...
Thanks for the help with the pictures. Couldn't locate them once I'd left the post. Personally I like the metal Indians better. They have a spray or stream nozzle, hold 5 gallons of water, and the metal construction always makes them feel cool to the touch.
Bjorn, Looks like you can get a good shot at it with the belts loosened and the alternator swung out of the way.
I began using left-hand twist drills a while back with pretty good success. Start by making sure the broken bolt end is as flat as it cen be. Next, punch a center mark to make sure...
For anyone traveling up in the woods; here's another couple of tools to consider carrying-- A Pulaski and an Indian Fire Pump. They've sure saved my hiney a few times.
RE: Re: RE: virus
Watch out for pop-ups that tout themselves as anti-virus programs which are in fact, the virus itself. One I got tangled up with early in my association with computers told me that it had detected some problems and did I want it to do a search... BIG MISTAKE!!! I ended up...
RE: virus
Same frame of mind that makes it "OK" to break in/tresspass so they can spray paint their BS on buildings, bridges, any large surface they can gain access to. None of it is "art", all of it is vandalism.
I'm saddened to think that the last vestages of consideration, and respect for...
Hey Cdub; based on the fact that there's no pass. side rear window and the turn signals are mounted upside down. That may be an LVS. Pretty scarce as the Marines were the only ones to use them. If it is, it would be worth trying to pick up.
