Convoying back over Donner Summit during winter in a 5 ton wrecker; we come around a corner to find a motorist, stopped in the only open traffic lane, checking the tension on his tire chains. With nowhere to go we head for the snow fields and blow by him like... well, he's standing still. And...
Even if the auction is legit; these trucks have a nasty predisposition towards spontaneous combustion. Everything is by wire so when a component or sub-system goes it usually takes a lot more with it. They're just too complex to be practical in the field.
It's one of those rigs where to two...
A friend of mine's kid works for an investment casting outfit that makes M16 receivers. The contract to demil. excesses is also held by the same company. He says they make, preserve and package receivers in one end of the complex then haul them to the other end of the plant where they are...
Alfa Heaven has Sherwin-Williams CARC.
There's a CARC data sheet in Tech Articles with all the info for primers, spray rig settings, reducer and clean-up.
For starters, what truck are you working on? 12v or 24v system?
A place to start is by looking for dirty contacts at the switch and at the heater. Or a wire breaking down inside it's insulation.
RE: Re: RE: how wide
Cory; Unimogs, especially the little 411s, don't tow well very fast or very far-- definately not at highway speeds. 411s are pretty tiny and light so you might consider a car trailer. Parts for the early ones are not real plentiful; so best not to wound it getting it home.
Herculiner and Rhinoliner are both polyurethanes so they should be paintable. "Factory color" choices are black, grey, red and white. Not sure about Linex. Did a search on Rattleguard www.rattleguard.com and it seems to be a pretty good choice too. Lots of color choices and it says it's a...
RE: More on baby HEMTT
Thanks Jed. Some days you have to drive a stake into the ground to see if I'm moving. Once the last of the big stuff is placed and mounted, it should go faster... I hope.
More on baby HEMTT
Still out here-- alive and kicking.
Got the spare tire up in the carrier and found I had to make a support and bracket to keep it from rolling the pass side frame channel.
Putting the finishing touchs on the tire hoist; winch and pulley at the end of the boom will finish it...
Will try to get some pictures to post. So far, from freeway speed, it looks as though it's almost flat-faced; not like the carrier pictured. Also that the cab is a separate assembly from whatever bed/body/? was behind it and not just chopped off. More later.
Yeah Bjorn, that one is huge. Definately larger than a weasel. It looks as wide as a HMMWV is long. I may try to find my way into it on my next trip to Stockton. If the owner is friendly I'll take a picture or two and try and ID it. May also be civilian too; like a Thiokol or late Sno-Cat.
Give yourself a little loose wire including a small loop just out of the housing, to allow it to flex. Often they break when the wire pulls tight from repeated twisting. A little piece of shrink wrap(unshrunk) or plastic tubing where the wire comes out of the column will give a more forgiving...
I've read lots of posts on light switch failures (especially the push-button one) and the pros and cons of adding a relay inline as a way to cut back on the current across the light switch contacts.
I'm still debating the 24v or 12v question and can wire up the baby HEMTT either way. So here's...
RE: Pics of my singled 5-ton with 16-20
Fantastic job!! My compliments.
I'm thrashing out the last little details on my spare tire crane for the baby HEMTT; will post some pictures as soon as it's light enough to take them. If your bed mounted crane doesn't work out I'd be glad to share ideas...
