    Mil Radio for 80 meters

9 out of 10 shortwave sets can't demodulate SSB. AM is much easier to receive than SSB, as you don't need a beat frequency oscillator to listen to it. Private and commercial aviation both use AM to communicate SSB is more complex to transmit as well. DG

Any guesses on this wiring? M1123...also light issues.

That added cable might well go to an added block heater for easier winter starting. DG

    Mil Radio for 80 meters

You guys, wah, wah, wah. It's too expensive. It's too heavy. That sounds more like an MV than a radio... DG

    Mil Radio for 80 meters

AN/GRC-19 is the way to go then. A beautiful radio set. The later replacement GRC-106 is a nest of problems. It makes 100W, high-level plate modulated power in AM, far superior to SSB in emergencies. Get your 100A alternator ready, too. DG

AC Killowatts and AC amperes gauges on TMSS

Have you tried to zero them with the screw in the lower part of the cover? Gently turn the screw and see if the pointer responds. DG

    Front running lights M35a2 ??

Don't overthink this, troops. The fix is practically free, and uses nothing but a soldering iron and some tape. 1...unscrew the Bendix connector off the back of the light switch. 2...Unwrap the tape back a bit, about 3 or 4 inches. 3... sort out wires #491 and #21. 4...Pull wire 491 away...

    Gonna need some parts

The guys finally made it out to Dragon's Plunder Ranch here in AZ. Jim & John loaded up all I had that they could use to fix the Deuce. They were nice enough to haul some Goat tires back to Leander for another member as well. Paying forward accomplished. Nice bottle of Bourbon left behind...

Anyone Know what Serial Number AMGeneral Assigned to the First Production M998?

I had one of the "Kenosha Museum" trucks in my shop for 11 months back in the late 90's, undoing all the test fleet damage. S/N 000024. Reportedly the highest number of that group. Had many Gov't types wanting to 'repo' it, but since it was never Gov't property (only AMG) they couldn't take...

    Parts for 1940 1 ½ ton LC 4X4 VF405 USA?

The early pre-war Dodge 4X4 trucks are exceedingly rare, as few were produced. They were mostly custom engineered for military use from conventional trucks. You will have better luck with these guys: https://aths.org/ DG

    AS-1729/VRC for CB Band

Chucky, your AS 3900 A/VRC base and A3017901-2 and A30118230-1 are just fine for CB freqs. Better than the other type, even. The whips are center-fed by a conductor up through the bottom section, so any "trimming" will irreparably ruin the top section. Essentially, they are a center fed...

    AS-1729/VRC for CB Band

The 1729 antenna uses a Franklin center fed whip. That type antenna will work well without a ground plane, as the you never know where it is going to wind up, usually not the best place for efficient radiation. So don't start trying "tune" it by lopping off bit, you'll ruin it. If you can...

    M43 engine swap

The stock 5.83:1 gearsets in the G744 series rear ends don't like much more HP/speed in the long run. I repowered an M37 many years ago with a Detroit Diesel 3-53 engine. About 105 HP, would move it along at 68 mph with 44" tires. 250K miles later, it ate up 13 sets of ring & pinion gears...

Replacing Rear Wheel Bearings and all pertaining to

A blob of silicone seal does better than that cork wedge in the spindle groove. DG

Replacing Rear Wheel Bearings and all pertaining to

Nothing wrong there. Usually called 'flipped' hubs, done so singles track better with the fronts. Unscrew the retainer nuts, after prying up the keeper flange. They shouldn't be too tight. Keep a clean towel of pan under when pulling the hub off, as the outer bearing will make a break for...

    Jumping in with both feet

I've seen that same type of genset failure, caused by the armature pressing on the flex plate too hard. It was the improper longitudinal location of the support bearing. DG

Front drive shaft grease cap came off

That is a "watch class" type cap. Held in place by flattening the dome a bit. I find an old golf ball makes a good thing to use as it does the job without mangling the cap, just hitting it with a hammer a few times. DG

M939 series winch PTO hydraulic pump and drive adapted to M809/M939 series winch to a M809 series 5 ton.

I used the existing steering pump with electric valves so they could control the winch from inside and outside. Not the optimum GPM, but it worked fine with a little throttle pulled out. DG

M939 series winch PTO hydraulic pump and drive adapted to M809/M939 series winch to a M809 series 5 ton.

The front crossmember will be in the way of the hydraulic motor on the winch. Much easier to fab a flat steel plate with holes to mount the motor below the winch, driven with two sprockets and Browning chain. Sorry, I didn't take any pix when I did this mod. On the 800-series, if the winch...
