they usually got filled with GAA when they started to leak.. you may run into the same problem if you change it out...If you want to get rid of most of the GAA...heat the box with your Bernzomatic with the plug out and put a air fitting in the top and give it a few psi and a lot of the grease...
The ton and a half is the conservative rating for offroad... You can put a bunch more in it for on paved or improved gravel roads.. The weak point will be the tires.. have good tires and check the max load rating for them... 1100s as on the M34..will give you more clearance and carrying...

New style is heat applied...all you have to do is replace em with brass grommets and run the rubber bungee cord thru the hole... I still like the ropes and hooks, myself.. Ozone doesn't eat em....
It will say 1C or 1D on the engine tag...RF corner.. raise the idle up with the hand throttle a little...see how it settles out... You are not supposed to idle em at low RPM any way...always pull them up to a grand for any lengthy idling...

Seems to be one shifter shaft not connected? The banjo diff is surely GM style run the GM number past the CCKW collectors to see if it is common WW2 or newer.

In the long run, as I have said constantly...have your 40 year old trucks delivered to you. You can fix all the problems at your leisure at home. A hook can pick you up and take you home for probably $3 a mile.. take out the rear drive shaft...
With a heater you have two hose clamps, one wire, and two ventilation hose clamps and maybe two bracket screws to contend with...still beats working around the fender
Each alternator is independently internally regulated...check the output of each and replace the one which has the bad regulator.. as they are 12V units with isolated ground any local alternator shop should be able to fix it for about $35 Vermont Prices...
It is the control valve for your windshield wiipers which is described in detail in the operator's manual for your truck. TM 9-2320-209-10 which you should be reading in bed every night until you are totally familiar with your unit.
