Guess I am confused re the OEM comment... my advice was to use the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) mounting method... And I fail to see how a method could become dated...you put the new ones on the way the old ones came off.. Good thing we're not...

And of course, who is to say that it is the original tachometer... I have a nice M139 from 1958 with 1 mile and 300 hours on its current instrumentation and patch panels on the dog legs and pop rivits in the doors...for example.
you can extend the sides upward with longer verticals, but then the original canvas is too short on the sides..the Mess Trucks and tool trucks we fabbed in the field had stand up room...we had the German Labor Service guys sew up some side canvas extensions.

Every small tool box should have the two aforementioned items as standard equipment if you have any inclination at all of working on large trucks...Of course you checked all the fluid levels before you drove the said truck home from...
If you cut em off longer, you can just use butt connectors to put the Packard or Douglas connectors on... and use black shrink tube to cover the butt connector.
