RE: Replacing Filament Bulbs with LEDs... anyone done it yet
The flasher is not load dependant.
Newer trucks have sealed-all LED light units. Grote makes them, they go around $125 per. Sometimes also on eBay.
The milspec LED replacement lamp units are just for the blackout positions...
A forklift to unload those panels, too unwieldy for the 543.
Our cabin is at Wild Horse Ranch, between Pie Town and Quemado up at 8100' by the Malpais National Monument.
The side cover was taken form a 10-ton. They are the same size, and it helps a bit in our nasty summers. I also put a set...
The maple was from a gym done in '61. It is a full inch thick, each panel weighs about 1,200 pounds.
The rears are military, but not tactical. They are off of a giant 8X8 airport fire truck I helped scrap out. I have them for the front, but I need a bit more $$ for new ones.

Here is a shot of my M54A1 with around 20,000 pounds of vintage maple flooring on it. I reclaimed six loads like this from a local high school.
We plan on reusing most of it in our new home here and our cabin in New Mexico.

Most likely you have damaged the directional lever switch. They are very flimsy electrically, and can quit just as described. The flasher is somewhat more robust, but even without it your stoplights will function.
Try another switch and see what happens. Then go to the trailer receptacle...
They were made by Detroit Products, a long gone outfit. If your driveshaft shop has parts, they will be expensive.
Always, when dealing with any tactical truck, buy from a surplus dealer and stay away from NAPA or commercial supply houses. You support those in the business, and they know...
RE: M135 Front Hub #
IMHO, all hubs on the G749 trucks are the same, front & rear. They did not "flip" hubs on these trucks, just used different pffset wheels.

I guess some folks don't realize the front hubs on a M35 duece are ALREADY "flipped" out. All you can do is make it narrower and as already said, have no brakes anymore.
Sorry Houdel, pull one apart and you will see what I mean.

A note from a guy that does all his own tire work and has for over 30 years: There are a lot of stories about "split rim" blowups.
Maybe so, I've seen a number of them go, but not in my shop. Those from pickup trucks, farm tractors, and old crappy trucks usually.
None of those blown has...
Nah, you can't do the front the same way as the brake drum plate is different than the rears in terms of spacing. Only on the front are they held together via the back of the wheel studs, rather than the 8 bolts around the hub.
The hub itself is the same anywhere on the truck. This all...
The older Mack-powered (The A1- series) had turbos. They used the ENDT-673 Thermodyne engine and the 5-speed OD trans.
Not buiilt in any great quantity, most all were done by Kaiser Jeep Corp in 66 thru 68.
They pull well, and my old untuned-for-sport M54A1 will outrun any M809 cargo any day.

I'd not buy any more wet-cell batteries if givin a choice. Optimas' have just a much or more power than the 6TL's, and are $100 per at costco. It is easy to make up a plywood mounting plate for the two ofthem in your regular battery box.
Average life here in the desert is 6 to 7 years in a...
Agreed. Find the point of drain. My trucks sit for up to 2 months and start instantly. Also, I have never had a milspec alternator go South electrically (only a bearing failure). There is something you need to fix, not keep replacing.
Use two Optima batteries in the end. They will go for...
I have no experience with Randolph products, but plenty over 20 years with Gillespie and Aervoe. Never once has the "G" paint let me down. It holds finish out of the can when cut with Xylene in our merciless sun. My M37 was done in '85 and it now needs a repaint, but still looks OK.
The...
