Anyone have ANY civilian P/N for PTO gasket?

The PTO outline for the duece is an SAE standard the world over. Any truck house will have them in varying thicknesses. Just ask for six-bolt PTO gaskets and they will be the right thing. If mounting a PTO, don't forget to get the right amount of case clearance so as not to bind the gear...

    Big Greasy Brake Question

Don't forget to check the little vent on the axle housing as well, it can get stiff and let pressure build to help that 90-W out all over. It should let air out but not water/dust in if working properly. dg

I installed PTO on my M813 and now it's acting strange....

Shims are OK, but not necessary. The gaskets can be stacked to achieve the proper standoff of the PTO case. If you are concerned about leakage between the gaskets, dab a bit of Aviation Permatex on things before you put them together. I've put many a PTO on a trans and this is the way all the...

    Electric shut-off for Cummins 250

RE: Re: RE: Electric shut-off for Cummins 250 Another thing to look at is the manual "run" thumbscrew on the bottom of the solenoid. It is used to make things go if there is no electricty in an emergency. Try turning it in and see if things improve. If it is set to run, you can't shut it...

Help with an air conditioner.. what is it?

Looks to be an end item from the TSC-60 radio shelter, S250 sort-of. Had it mounted on a set of slides so you could push it in when transporting. Had 6 of them some time ago. Each also had a Collins HF-80 10kW transmitter in it. dg

    turn signals

If you would like to do it up in the current 3-color "Loepard" pattern, try this: Home Depot. Behr Exterior Latex stain. Russet Brown, Ponderosa Green, Ebony. Exact matches, very tough paint. If your present topcoat is OK, just spray away. I did a junker M37 12 years ago and it is still...

    400 hz

RE: MEP-021A 400Hz came about for things that fly. Any electric motor or transformer will be an order of magnitude smaller and lighter for 400 than 60 hz. i.e., a one horse 400HZ motor is about the size of the old quart oil can, and will have a shaft speed of around 5,200 rpm. As stated...

    5 ton vs. deuce offroad

I've run the Glamis dunes out in California easily in my M54A1 with Goodyear 14.00's down to around 10 PSI. No problem with any sensible hill, the engine makes peak torque at 1600 RPM and would just go on and on. No hopping with the tires soft. A few quad and Jeep guys found out just how big...

    Lincoln and Wellannd M543

I gotta' step up on this one...having the 602 in my wrecker for years, then repowering with the Mack 673 I can positively say the Diesel has a lot more grunt and is faster on the hills. Mileage went from 1 to 5 MPG, too. BTW, the 602 lives on in a restored White road tractor in Jerome, Az. dg

    5 ton air barkes

The 900-series trucks already have straight air brakes on them. You can do the conversion with all military parts, much better IMO. They are Bendix wedge brakes, as going to s-cam pots would make the whole thing a lot more crowded when the axles flex. They will go almost 90 degrees different...

    5 ton wheelbases

There were three lengths used on the G744 series. The shortest is the M52 tractor & M51 dump (IMHO), the next is the mid used for the M54 cargo, M62/543 wrecker, and numerous others. The long one was used on the M55 cargo, M139 bridge, and the big shop vans. The wrecker differs from all...

    What's This Receptacle For?

The end of the Bobbit story goes: She runs out of the house with it, jumps in the car, and takes off down the street. Thinking it is just too gross and is evidence, she tosses it out the window. Buford & Slim are behind her in an old truck, and the disconnected member hits square on their...

I moved the brake handles to the front, I'm too slow to get back there before it goes downhill. dg

    M104 trailer - I think?

PoW translates to G744 on this forum. M104's are radically different from M105's. In addition to what went ahead from Cabell; The entire frame and tongue are different, with a swivel "tuckup" landing wheel. The bed has tailgates both front & rear as well. Lighter tongue weight as well. The...

    How much grease?

Another point to ponder: Bearing grease is available in a lot of formulations. Some of which are for "High temp disc brake bearing use". Fine, but they are usually made up from a lithium, molybednum, or other mineral soap, and will not mix with 90-w gear oil. Try it, it just makes a blop...

    Front Axle Boots

I've been buying them from Antelope Valley in California. They have a lot of import (read Taiwan) parts for 5-tons, but they are pretty tough and have had no fault with them. I suspect age more than origin is the key factor. These are always fresh. dg

    5 ton singles

1600's will fit OK. Might rub on a hard left turn. 1400's are easier to get along with, however. The 5-tons are geared slightly faster than a duece as well. 6.44 vs. 6.722 If your truck has a miltifuel, the 1A motor is running just about at it's limit for longevity. Keep in mind it is just a...

    drive line u joints

I've had really poor service from replacements made for the commercial market. You might be far better off to get GI surplus items from AB LINN or Rapco. Cheaper, too. dg

    Federal Register

The big scare that pops up every year is the provision that they can change the law retroactively to say they can have it back any time they want, tough for you & no renumeration. I'd burn mine to the ground on the capitol steps first..... dg
