It might still be sucking air it might be worth a try to get a bit of fuel in a jar or can run a hose going into the back side of the IP and see if it will run any better it will eliminate air leaks if it runs good this way you will have to start replacing the rubber fuel lines.
Did you use the proper procedure to bleed it such as taking the pink wire off the IP and opening the bleeder screw on the filter base until fuel came out while cranking. Not doubting your ability but numerous posters state they bled the system but didnt do it right and that being the reason for...
Is the truck smoking out of both sides of the exhaust usually bad head gasket or valve will do this out of one side or the other if its doing it out of both sides it may be a tired IP lacking the power to fully crack the injectors open getting bad fuel atomization or serious lack of fuel.

I cut 34 inches off all the ones I did always measure from the back of the frame I always put the rear bumperettes back on the truck if your not going to use them subtract 11 inches from the 34.
I usually find a replacement stanadyne pumps are relatively cheap easier to replace than go through the time and BS to rebuild one. Most good diesel shops have rebuilds sitting on the shelf.

Smell the oil make sure its not diluted with fuel if it is excess fuel washes all the oil out of the bearings and washes the cylinders clean as stated before it could be spun bearings.
