Look around on the evil auction site, and the various HMMWV groups on fakebook where it’s not uncommon to find the set (box plus sender) for under $400. Easier to find around $500, if they’re asking much more than that, keep looking.
I paid $490 shipped about 2-1/2 years ago - yes, it fixed...
lawyers and liability and experience.
I’ve had similar experiences over the years and understand the thought processes. When a professional does a job, he’s responsible for every detail. He also may have different ways of running/stringing/bundling wires which, while your method will work...
I’ve got a mini-still (from Rebel Brewer’s about ten years back... which handed records over to BATFe who sent me a note warning it’s not to be used for distilling spirits... something about George Washington fielding an army larger than his Revolutionary War army against farmers and home...
I changed out the power steering pump and harmonic balancer a couple weeks back; while I had the cooling stack out I got a good look inside the radiator. Looks like one of those magic moon gardens I had as a kid but only white crystals.
I thought I’d treated that two years ago, flushed the...
Took mine out for a ride yesterday, local muscle car/collector car meetup in the parking lot by a Starbucks and a Roy Rogers restaurant, been going on for years.
Found a spot next to two other HMMWVs, one owned by “Melvin” and another I have no idea who it belonged to; there was a CUCV too but...
This might help:
"Chevy GMC 6.2L 6.5L Diesel Engine Fuel System Diagnosis Service Manual Nov. 1992"
I got it from a guy on the evil auction site, I've scanned it as a PDF but it's YUGE, about 2 mB and I've tried uploading it to the new manuals section several times without success.
Shoot me...
Nice thing about this hobby is, you can keep it as stock as you like, jazz it up to your heart and wallet’s (and spouse’s content, as the case may be) or turn it back to as close to stock as suits your fancy.
Welcome to the madness.
Enjoy.

Not even sure you'd need to get them "red hot."
I once owned a 1975 Norton 850 Commando. Brits used a solid copper head gasket. Local shop annealed this when replacing a worn out valve lifter. A year later I put in a set of Silicon-bronze valve guides, lapped the valves, and annealed the...
Another tip from an old roadie/ham radio guy: many times you can improvise a solution from what you have on hand.
I HAD bought a grommet for the battery box hole for the 200A alternator cable, couldn't find it. Had some 1/4" ID fuel line handy (with internal braiding), so I cut a length of it...
Sorry if that was confusing.
I'd buy again, but I'd go over the truck with a fine-toothed comb. One of those "wish I knew then what I knew now" things.
The one I bought had a cracked 218 transfer case and two bent wheels (just enough to make some road noise). Xfer case likely due to forklift...
If you have a fakebook account, there are MANY HMMWVs available on the various FMV groups like "Hmmwv swap meet" HMMWV and a few others I'm not connected to. I've seen some smoking deals come and go.
Your price isn't unreasonable, and from what I've seen, about a year or two after people have...
Yep, that's a 3-speed. DoD wound up just swapping out 6.5 engines for 6.2s as time went by. Detroit Diesels then GEP motors (more desirable) and yeah, "detonate" is a general term for total internal destruction, or otherwise broken beyond repair.
That #8 cylinder thing I read about, not very...
