    Another HF54 conversion

The box and pitman arm was for an LN series Ford truck. I really can't speculate on year as there wasn't much left of the truck.

    Another HF54 conversion

Rick, The pump is stamped with a code indicating flow, pressure, etc. I am not sure how to raise the pump pressure to a controlled and exact 1500 psi. It would also be prudent to make sure that my existing pump is actually 1000 psi. The "new" pump that I bought was a "rebuilt" at best...

    Another HF54 conversion

Below: A 1.5kpsi pump would increase force by 50% and would be an easy next step. I'm pretty sure that I'm working against the pump relief with nearly any tough turn....

    Another HF54 conversion

The gamma goat column ends up with the steering wheel a little closer to the dash than stock. The horn wiring box keeps it from being slid towards the driver. Not a big deal for me and it would be improved with a smaller steering wheel. It fits in the dash mount and is held at the firewall with...

    Another HF54 conversion

Made some progress this weekend and got the box installed and functional. I am using a 4-port Ross HF54 box with the ram assist ports blocked off. The column is gamma goat with 6-series farm pto shaft and u-joints. The drag link is a custom sleeve, off the shelf tie rod ends, and clamps from...

Got tips for better MPG's from LDT motors?

Honestly, am disssapointed in the 5.9 cummins in my dodge to the point of getting rid of it. The only good thing about the VP44 IP is that it is easy to replace.

Got tips for better MPG's from LDT motors?

Where did I say one was better? The discussion was efficiency; not which one is better. Didn't I state that the multi was a "cheap and reasonably reliable" engine?

Got tips for better MPG's from LDT motors?

The one which uses the lowest amount of fuel per horsepower, the Cummins. I don't understand the resistance to accepting the multi for what it it; a cheap and reasonably reliable engine. It isn't like it's your wife and you have to lie about how she looks, LOL.

Got tips for better MPG's from LDT motors?

LOL. I guess it depends on what you consider efficient. Let's put some numbers to this and settle it once and for all: The 5.9 cummins with VP44 IP has a minimum BSFC of 0.334 lb/BHP-HR at 2000 rpm. HP at this speed is 175. The LDS-465 has a minimum BSFC of 0.4 lb/BHP-HR at 2000 rpm. HP...

Got tips for better MPG's from LDT motors?

The high compression ratio loses more in friction and cylinder leakage losses than it gains.

    One for my brother's truck.

    Another HF54 conversion

I started my power steering conversion this weekend. I am using the Ross HF54 power steering box, the 8.5" pitman arm, 5-ton pump, and a custom drag link. I did not have to move the engine to remove the old steering box. I just pulled the column, removed the cover, pounded out the sector...

    upgrading the ldt

Every LDT and LD that I've seen has the regulator on the side of the block for the oil cooling. The only difference that I am aware of is that the LDS has an extra cooling channel in the piston which results in 100F reduction in top ring land temperature. Not significant IMHO.

HF54 to Gamma Goat steering connection

No, using the gamma goat column to add power steering to an M35.

    deuce hyd power steering

My stock dodge ram is ~4.5 turns and aftermarket boxes are 3.5 turns. My M35 will be 3.75 turns lock to lock which will be somwehere nice in the middle. If the power isn't enough, I'll add an assist cylinder.

    deuce hyd power steering

The HF54 is five turns lock to lock (95 degree sweep) and has 12.200 in-lbs force with 1kpsi pump. There is an 8.5" pitman arm available on the four port box. This summarizes some steering geometry: Pitman arm length (in)5.566.577.588.59Sweep (in)7.788.499.199.9010.6111.3112.0212.73Force...
