mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

The Acoustical Suppression Kit (ASK) doesn't have any sort of hood over the exhaust. See mine which has had no changes. The genny exhaust just needs enough deflection to keep rain from falling straight in. I've added fittings to get out of the ASK structure to direct exhaust outside the shed...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Earlier I mentioned $30-35 flex from the auto stores in 5 ft lengths. These $70 pieces of crap were new when photographed and red rusted within a month. They have very little flex. They had to be bastardized to attach to the exhausts. Haven't had a need to run the gennys except for maintenance...

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Looks like someone's idea of a shop-vac rig. I have no idea what it is but agree that you don't want it for MEP exhaust. Jerry:tank:

Dependable, Are the aluminum tubes equipped with female pipe threads on the ends? What diameter flex is it? Jerry

"I just tested all of mine individually last weekend, pulling the blade connector off each and testing to the frame, all measured just over 6 ohms (6.1-6.4) Ike" You are correct Ike. Faulty memory on my part. Jerry

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

I have one left but I haven't thought about selling it. They so far outclass what is available, maybe they were some of those $690 items.

Jim, I may be recalling incorrectly but that is the measurement with plug uninstalled and on the bench, I believe it is either 0.6 or 6 ohms. Don't have the TM handy. Jerry

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

Steve, The half-union on one of the hoses would not mate up. I went to lowes and bought a standard (made in china) galvanized union. Only one they had at the time. I'll open doors and run exhaust box fans as needed off convenience outlets. Jerry

MEP Exhaust max temperatures (selecting braided flex hose)

These are laundry unit hoses. I got 4 with my laundry unit and have used three. A couple of SS members had them available a couple of months ago. Angus was one I believe. Really pricey if you were to try to match on the market. I had auto flex pipe but it is tough to attach, too thin and...

Bill, If I recall correctly, your glow plugs should test 0.6 ohms from top to tip. If they read open, they are shot. All 4 must be 24 volt units. If you have an infrared temp sensor gun, the plugs should be up around 150 degrees after a minute of preheat. If no gun, use bare hand and each...

Bill, In my opinion, your IP and injectors are fine or, once started, you would not get the runs under load that you have gotten. Your glow plugs may not be up to par. Possible low engine compression or starter not turning fast enough. Others with more engine experience will likely have...

Just purchased MEP-002A - Rent our home - suggestions on best way to use?

Until I developed an interest in mil generators and joined SS, I never gave a thought to grounding a portable generator and I suspect 90 % of big box buyers are the same. Most, I suspect just start and run extensions. I also suspect many just hook up a 30 amp cord to the genny and back-feed an...

ZD, Whatever the real problem, I'm VERY GLAD that when it ran, it ran better than ever before. Have been becoming a bit paranoid here wondering what I could have done wrong, particularly after checking everything twice. Hang in there Bill. You and the wizards of smart here will figure it...

    Mep 003 engine value?

I've been sitting on a pile of starters off rebuilds for 2 years. Not so easy to move as you might think. Jerry

mep-003a running temp in a closed environment

Install some corrugated steel or aluminum under the deck at a slight slope (1/4"/ft with shims) and protect the genny from falling/dripping moisture and at same time, keep genny open from critters. Easy job. Jerry

    #LO to #6 jumper??

I think I'd just rather just die standing at attention at my generator control panel, having been stricken by a "double fault". Based on almost 31 years of service in the Army of The United States, as enlisted and commissioned, this sounds like an amber alert for an isolated incident, issued by...
