Well it has been a busy week. Everything that bolts on this M38 is now OD! :) I have started to populate the dash, install wire harness and the instrument cluster is done (just need to place it when tub is on frame). If all goes well this weekend, the tub should be reunited with the lonely...
maddawg,
Yes it is or was a R2 Crash Truck with low miles due to sitting, waiting and waiting for plane problem. I have some of the maintenance records for it and mostly it was driven for training and oil changes. There is tag on the body with serial number and I think around 300 were...
RE: M56 with 1100 x 16
Thanks Chris, I think Smokey Bear likes his higher perch to scout out the farm for fires! Should have a good burn during the next rain!
Hi Lane, I thought you would chime in on this! :D Do you like the rims?! I will get you measurements on the wheel well clearance...
Nice weekend in MI so I put the new Michelins 1100 x 16's on the M56 to clean out the garden. What a different in speed, traction and looks! Kind of make the ugly truck cute.
I have used on all of my restorations with very good results. I cover it with GCI. As mentioned waite minimum 2 to 3 days for off gassing/drying before covering with paint. Between coats, I use a brillo type pad to scratch it up a little.
The WC52 belongs to a guy in Coldwater...forgot name. It is a Dutch return rig, very cool.
Sorry Dave about the 5 ton course. We stumbled onto it via another active hmmwv driving to it to direct the 5 tonners. They let us go first!!! I know other took pictures...where are they.
Thanks everyone...again!
Lane, once this one is done it will either reside in my barn or be put up for sale...have not decided. The fall trail ride is a go for me and my humvee!
CGarbee, in my previous restorations I made a lot of different hat channels and then when I get an mv that needs...
Well I went and did it! I painted it 2 coats of OD (1.5 gallons)! Holy cow there is a lot of little parts to paint on M38's...Now I just have to wait for the paint to dry enough for assembly. Should be looking like a flat fender again soon. Only things left to paint is the windsheild frame...
CamoGames,
Ask your area farmers and miners for informaion on old mv's. There should be a few trucks around in the prairies. Seems whenever I am in different provinces Canada, I see junk M37's, M211's, etc. Good luck.
I received the monster amg box Friday just in time for my trail ride/rally at Ft. Custer. Fun trip and the hmmwv passed the 5 ton tactical driving course...mud, sand, liquid, clay, ascending and decending (the open area just below the "B" in Battle creek on the map)! What fun.
Here is...
Rattlehead,
Just follow the red line. I have it memorized but I do not know the roads. The bottom intersection is I94 and exit 92(?) then go north and turn left (light?). Then go north until you see the entrance on the left...turn left and go about .5 mile and guard shack on left. Basically...
Well, it rained all morning here in Mid-Michigan (about 1" or so) and storms tomorrow. This means that there will be mud holes at Ft. Custer! I am still waiting on my brake line....hope to make it.
I find them both both ways...so now I went out and looked at my 2500 dodge diesel 4x4. The rear does not have one and the front has one and it (slip joint) is on the drive unit side! I sure would like to know this as well...
Dave,
My Mog just had it's slave cylinder on the clutch replaced and working...then wham, my brakes are too mushy. Now I have to trouble -shoot that too. So now a recap on mv's: hmmwv brake issue, Mog brake issue, M38A1 needs batteries, M56 not current on license/ins (it does need this to...
Thanks for the kind words. The previous, previous owner bondo'd over those welds for the reinforcement patches. In fact, I removed a lot of the bondo that they applied for no reason at all (unless they wanted to civilianized it), such as the spot weld dimples. Once painted I post more picts...
The tub now has it's first coat of primer and tonight it will get it's second coat. Hopefully by the weekend, it will be OD! Memorial Day is just around the corner and I hope she comes together by then!
Well my hmmwv rear brake line feed failed and I am waiting on a new one from amg. If it is here by this Friday, then I am good to go, if not, then I just donated $20 to a worthy cause! Or does anyone have a spare seat for me to plant my but in?
Dave, hummwv's can only go to 5' and that hole...
This topic came up on the g503 hmmwv section. Perhaps there is some useful information for you there. The more info the better even if it is a different rig.. :)
