Check for voltage at the pink wire on top of the IP. Do this with the key in the run position. If you have voltage, remove and reinstall the wire, listen for the audible clunk of the solenoid.

I think maybe by bidding blind and not inspecting it, you screwed yourself. All the problems you descrlbed would normally be caught during an inspection.
