    I'm living proof of that.

Good point. But now (in a roundabout way) you insulted Ron, who was defending you in post number 2131. Only goes to prove that no good deed goes unpunished.

Yeah, I suppose we all age a little differently. In my case the capacity has suffered a lot, but General Hood doesn't seem to have gotten any wiser. Then again, I haven't know him for that long, so if it's a very gradual process I may not have noticed any improvements.

Two things, Sir Hood: One is that the swing cylinders are almost tiny, so they can't weight that much. Also, suppose that (unlike you) anthkey isn't elderly and can handle physical tasks accordingly.

Technically it's an M35C, but 580C seems to be the civilian counterpart. But I've also seen 580D mentioned. Not that it really should matter, as your local friendly hydraulic shop will measure the seals anyway.

    oil leak

With everything clean, look for leaks above the filter. Of course, pressurized oil can end up in places far from the actual leak, but if after running the engine the engine briefly there's a drop at a connection, that could very well be the source. But if things are still dirty and oily, it...

FLU air compressor, what actuates compressor? (and other air system questions)

I would guess that the other regulators in the system are there to provide the desired maximum pressure for the specific part of the system they feed. For example, I would not want 80-90 psi going to the axles. While removing a damaged air vessel makes perfect sense, having less tank capacity...

I'd probably rather get 60 gallons in pails than a barrel, even though I do have a barrel clamp and crane. But like Ron, first I'd like to know how good, bad or different Sinopec products are.

Clean everything and then start the engine and look for the leak?

FLU air compressor, what actuates compressor? (and other air system questions)

I'm no expert on the air system (either), but yes, the puny compressor runs all the time. Once the max pressure is reached, that unloader valve spits out the excess. As you've noticed, there are many, many places for air leaks to exist, and it doesn't take much of a leak (or a few very minor...

Speaking of auction wins: Hooks,TX to NM

Okay, now I don't feel so sorry for you. And 5.3 with 62,000 lbs. isn't bad at all. That's about what I get, too, although I'm very rarely that heavy. What kills my mileage is speed. 70-75 is where I like to be, at about 1,600 rpm, and which the 3406B seems to prefer.

I'm fortunate in that I get around 8 mpg...if I keep it under 70, and with only one trailer. That's usually at about 35,000 lbs. total. Also, no need for a log book, which helps immensely. I never did understand how the authorities can know better than I do for how long I can drive. There were...

GovPlanet, one short day a week pickup times, Anyone else having this problem???

Thankfully I have yet to be in your position, BadRobot. The closest would be when buying a trailer and then not be able to pick it up for a few months. Naturally, by the time I could finally get an appointment, I didn't need that trailer anymore. And when I say that I'm surprised that they are...

Well, thankfully it's a free market. And if the seller had to fight GP, had a hard time with transport, etc., a profit plus compensation for pain and suffering sounds fair to me. I may find myself in that situation soon, if my new parts SEE (which hasn't arrived yet) turns out to be too nice to...

While there's usually a fair amount of stuff coming out of Fort Carson, I have no idea what direction those items normally go from there. Except for what ends up here. As far as those $1,500 quotes go, that's before the fees (VT in this case), and most are closer to, or over $2,500. And I could...

GovPlanet, one short day a week pickup times, Anyone else having this problem???

Yeah, that could simplify things, but at a price. I keep seeing vehicles listed for sale for what I sometimes know (and generally suspect) is at least twice what the seller paid. Besides, it seems that once you end up talking to the correct person at GP, they are very helpful and accommodating...

Thanks for that info, simp5782! What would it take to make you want to go a bit farther west? I know it'd be a ways from home for you, but the scenery is nice here. Plus you'd get to rest up in the guesthouse - which may be needed after seeing my collection of...um, stuff.

Ah, I've always had better luck listening for air leaks than looking for them. But then again, you did mention going three feet into the river.

With the system pressurized, 4WD and lockers engaged, can you hear any leaks? With the engine off, of course.

Alright, there's some sort of light at the end of the tunnel. Probably artificial, but still. Suddenly we have two promises of getting our machines out of Hooks on Tuesday. Not a combined shipment, that would've made too much sense, but at this point that's okay. I want to thank you, simp5782...
