No precise answers, as you already guessed. First, is it a radial or a bias tire? Was the radial made before or after '85? Is it a passenger, light truck, or commercial tire?
Bias tires seem to last practically forever, if built right and especially if kept out of the sun. Generally I have to...
Okay, curiosity got the better of me and I looked into those "new" tires. When asked what the DOT code on these are, or date of manufacture, the seller responded "Around 2008".
If that is correct, they should be taken out of service at this point, but definitely not be put into service.
Okay...
Not that I've looked into the correct parts, or interchangeability, but it seems to me that it shouldn't matter what engine is in front of the transmission.
A 4L80E cover for a 4WD application would likely fit regardless of what engine is in front of the trans, or what transfer case is behind...
After a nice conversation with Gunzy I now know much more about this vehicle...but not why the engine is yellow.
The photo sent to me by Gunzy shows it being yellow when he bought it. Another one of life's mysteries, and one I can live with.
Thanks, Gunzy!
No, the SEE will remain tan...or whatever color nature makes it over time. Ironically, I was just looking at Titan's web site, and with 25% off today you could get your very own defense against pesky commuter cars, cows, or whatever you have roaming the streets there.
I've seen maybe 20, and usually they just look like dirty engines. While I took delivery of a new Suburban with a 6.2, I can't remember what color the engine was. Black, maybe?
Ironically, the engine is about the only thing that isn't black on this one - somebody went nuts with the spray gun and...
I'm just curious about this. Has anyone else ever seen a 6.2 painted Cat yellow?
I'm guessing that it could've been rebuilt at some point, and being a diesel the rebuilder used Cat paint. But with only 7,000 miles on it, a rebuild doesn't seem overly likely. If that's indeed the actual mileage.
It was such a pleasure to hop (okay, maybe "hop" isn't the most correct word with a bum back) into the SEE today and find that there was 60 psi in the tanks, and it fired right up. I mean right up - maybe one and a half revolutions. And that's after it had sat for about two months.
Started the...
Somewhat to my surprise, that's exactly what I found after changing out a Powr-Lok for a Detroit in the front of my Jeep. Usually I'm in 2WD as much as possible, but noticed that in very twisty sand washes the Jeep would turn almost 50% better when in 4WD.
That the steering became much lighter...
While the Powr-Lok is very good, it's hard to beat the No-Spin, I think.
I have Detroit Lockers (front and rear) in two Jeeps, rear only in one Jeep and a Suburban, and No-spins in the M10XXs and the Peterbilt.
But yes, with first generation BFG All-Terrains, unequal length axle shafts (offset...
I wouldn't worry about having your evaluation done within 24 hours. GP is pretty good about making things right after a sale. At least that has been my experience.
Of course, I don't start the conversation with ragging on them, or demanding anything. Maybe that helps?
What I would worry about...
I think that the wildcard in the FLU market is the people (the majority?) who buy them to get a Unimog, not to get a FLU.
For example, how else would one explain the recent sale of a SEE with two pulled-apart loader cylinders, and one of the bucket pivot points partially ripped off the loader...
