Picking up my new to me 003

Believe the -24P has a cross reference in it. I'll leave the definitive answer to the pros. I just buy enough engines and used to buy enough units to just identify by sight and sell or swap. Salvaged a few good head gaskets that way but new ones can be had from Delks or Gulf Coast surplus. Jerry

Picking up my new to me 003

"Going through" by the seller is obviously not the same as "going through' by the buyer. Hopefully you have the Tech Manuals. If not, go to this link and download them. They are free at links below Guru Speddman's signature...

Picking up my new to me 003

Welcome aboard! It used to be weeks/months before one was cleared to pick up a generator. What you got when the EUC was finally approved, often didn't resemble what you bid on. Much better for us generator freaks now. BTW: just watched parts units go for higher prices than I've ever paid...

M1031 genset, how much power is needed to run

Sounds like you need a MEP-003a engine if it is a 1800 rpm generator. There are a couple of members nearer to you who have/had some. Maybe one will chime in. Jerry

003a starter grinding and a couple of other issues....

Forgot to mention that drain petcocks can be cleared with compressed air easily. They gather crud on the inside of the canister. In fact compressed air can do a lot toward clearing your lines. Jerry 2cents2cents

003a starter grinding and a couple of other issues....

If you need a starter, let me know. Careful on the grinding as it will eat the starter Bendix gear pretty quickly (probably not the correct gear description). Jerry

    MEP-003a won't start, really confusing

Don't take offense at the basics below: I don't recall you saying anything about adjusting valves, but I'd pull the valve covers, adjust valves and be sure that all ports are open on the oil pick-up/distribution pipe. Oil flows to the heads through a port in the valve cover and is...

    MEP-002/003 engine servicing

Triple Jim, Sounds 180 out from conventional wisdom on this forum and the TMs, which indicate throttle is to be left at run setting. I'm really interested in your results. Jerry

Try to purchase a used MEP generator

Triple Jim's experience is hard to argue with. I agree with his view that "Now that I have reliable backup power, I would not hesitate to buy another MEP through the surplus route if the price were low enough to leave room for buying parts and putting in my labor. The prices do seem to...
