Jason,
$65 with new nozzle is reasonable price. Nice jig. Amazing what people come up with with the right machining tools. NJTOOLNUT had a similar idea and produced a great similar compression testing jig/rig. Gauge is broken off on yours but, in my opinion, is not necessary as it indicates...
"They are rebuilding them, the nozzles are $65 each. Does that sound like a good price?"
Is that total cost per injector or parts price for nozzle with labor to be added to it?

I agree with Steelypip. Injector would be the next most likely culprit. I've seen several units where of the 4 injectors, 3 test about 1750 psi and one will be down around 1300 or 1400 psi, so it fires early and fuel is not combusted. Also seen injectors from contract rebuilt engines where 2...
"The Feds I got this genny from pointedly mentioned that they had put good diesel fuel in it, and that couldn't have been more than a couple of months before I bought it. So I am thinking that the fuel in there now couldn't be more than, say, 6 months old."
The fuel may not be that old, but...
Strainer is a pretty easy fix. rotate until tabs line up, remove and blow with a high pressure compressor air nozzle from both sides. If necessary use a brass bristle brush gently and reapply the air. While filler neck is out, inspect the tank after you drain it from the bottom petcock.

DRASH units are increasingly showing up at auction, but details on the generators seem non-existent. Anyone had any experience with the generators? Brand? Reliability, Etc?

Couchilla,
If you are referring to the louvered box, yes there is a safety switch behind the box that shuts the engine down if overheated. You have to pull the muffler and sheet metal to get to it. Not an uncommon failure and, if one of the leads is disconnected, it could be shorting to the...
