There is a governor to limit engine rpm. I have to believe that the engine manufacturer/ designer set this limit. If the engine was not capable, why set it so high? It is not unreasonable to assume that it will be run against the governor.
I have a hard time believing that this engine's...
Can you give any details of the engine configuration? ie turbo, stock fuel settings, etc. 15% is often touted as a typical loss in a pickup/ car drivetrain. Do you think that 15% is enough for the deuce? I have also noted in magazines/ TV that when stock vehicles don't live up to their...
This is not entirely true. Water carries more heat than water/ antifreeze mix. "A mixture of 60% ethylene glycol to 40% water by weight will be about 75% as efficient as water at 25C." However, as you indicate, that is not the only variable. Freeze protection and corrosion prevention are...
Every instance that I have read regarding cavitation erosion is in relation to wet liners. I believe, but cannot immediately find the reference, that this is due to the cast iron of a parent bore engine being intrinsically more immune to corrosion than the steel in a liner. Aside from SCA, you...
Excerpts from Cummins Service Bulletin 3666132-01:
RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE PRACTICES FOR COOLING SYSTEMS OF PARENT BORE (NONLINED) ENGINES
Note:L See also Operation and Maintenance Manual, B Series Engines, Bulletin No. 3810205.
The B Series engine normally does not require SCA because the...
I don't agree that the existing 24V system is "taxed". You need to take a look under the hood of a Dodge p/u to see a "taxed" system. Tiny little wires.
I have a coworker who is depotting a civvy regulator. I'll ask him what he is using; he claims that it is softening up the potting. There are also commercial chemicals designed for this.
The 350 is at least an order of magnitude better than the 302 GMC...
The 302 is not a BAD engine, I've owned several. But, it is decades behind a good 350 small block. If you want any HP out of a 302, you'll have to keep it wound up too.
I agree that it is great to disassemble your front axle for service and use the one-piece boot at that time. However, with boots lasting ~ 1 year, it doesn't seem practical to do annually. I have had the rubber and vinyl boots fail in a one year period.

Is the rod breaking due to stress, the rod bolts stretching, the bearing wearing out, or ?
Seems like there has to be a way of preventing this.
Does the oil pump line go directly to the oil galley or does it go out to an oil cooler?
I'd be hesitant to modify the oil pump; especially if you didn't have a spare.
Check out how the 302 GMC is modified for full flow. Maybe you can do something similar. Go to www.inliners.org then to...
No offense intended to the above poster but I have a different philosophy. I don't know what vintage your engine is, but a lot was learned from the time the Model T was designed up to the fifties. Also keep in mind that the big 3 built as cheaply as possible and customer expectations were...
I think that the term "split rim" is being misapplied to our military Budd rims. The local tire guy showed me a true split rim. They are not at all the same and have very little "catch" holding them together when assembled correctly. He (and the other truck shop) said that there is no problem...
I bought a new horn solenoid last year. Appeared to work fine. However, as the air pressure decreased, the horn solenoid would open up and the horn would "moo" until the air tanks emptied. Long after I'd gone home, of course. Kind of funny.
