I know what you mean by the first gear thing. The 47 Dodge I've driven does that too, first gear is such a crawler that by the time you get into 2nd, it is already basically stopped. From what I've seen in video/person, I can already tell you I'm going to love it!
I agree on the splitting...
10-4 on that, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I was literally just watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATydWsWxOf4 and this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27m9jnAurF8
I have experience with split shifting in the F600, it has a 5 speed and 2 speed rear for a total of ten gears...
Oh man you guys are killing me.....I need my Deuce pronto! It sounds like a blast to own one. I love my CUCV, and already feel like the king of the road in that. I'm going to do my best to save up as soon as possible. I think theoretically by the end of the summer I could have enough. I'll...
Good stuff. I've had my M1028 next to a M35 before, and it is bigger but not *ridiculously* bigger. A 5 ton, on the other hand is HUGE in comparison (to both), the headlights are at a 6 foot tall mans head haha.
I can imagine the brakes on the F600 are similar to a Deuce. Single circuit, huge drums all around, vacuum (vs pressure in Deuce), It stops very well loaded or unloaded. Way better than a 2000 F350 7.3/ZF6 mason dump we also use that has modern 4 wheel disk and hydroboost. That thing with...
Good point. I know what you mean by that. Sometimes the steering doesn't directly correlate with direction of travel in old, large trucks. That is one thing I was going to ask, how does a Deuce react when loaded? The F600 loaded isn't all that much different than when unloaded.
Wow thanks for all the responses! I'm not so much intimidated by it, just trying to get an idea of what to expect. Like StreetGlider says, I want that raw badassery
It seems like I am on the right track to knowing what it'll be like (sort of!) Me possibly getting one is about a year...
Hello all,
I am currently saving up to get an M35, and I have never driven one. I have however driven various other vehicles of differing sizes and age/capability. This comes from my working on a farm. Having never driven a deuce, I'd like to hear what you guys think it would compare to at...
Awesome. Its great to see CUCVs doing work, I'm sure that truck driver was very thankful! This snow storm is a mess....
What did you use for a recovery strap? It seemed to do well with a huge load.

Hello all.
I plan on doing an NV4500 swap into my M1028 this summer. I have locally sourced a pedal set, but I'm looking for some insight into this pedal assembly.
It is from a 1987 Chevy (IIRC) C10 with an SM465. It is vacuum brakes and hydraulic clutch. Would this be a suitable set? It...
If she has an interest in learning about the mechanics and working on a vehicle, you cant beat a CUCV. Plus she says she wants it so that is good. My first car at 15 was my 1974 Corvette which I've been restoring since. I have also daily driven my M1028 for weeks at a time when my DD was down. I...
Most likely I am, it is just frustrating dealing with parts of subpar quality failing too early. Just making sure I didn't do something drastically wrong. I don't believe my grease choice had any real bearing on this failure (no pun intended!)
Good stuff, with a trucking company I'm sure you can narrow down what works and what doesn't! I know on the farm that I work, we use the high tack red grease and I don't think have ever had a U joint failure (unless it was missed during greasing). That stuff is ridiculously sticky in comparison...
I hear what you're saying about the non dispersal / stickiness of the grease. It isn't very sticky compared to a traditional red grease. I did some research into the grease issue, but I'll give some red grease a try this time around. I'm still going to get a non serviceable unit, but for the...
This is the reason I went with it in the first place. I'm a fan of doing maintenance, but I can also see the merit in non-serviceable U joints. I think this time around I'll use a real Spicer non-serviceable joint. I don't plan on doing any serious off roading any time soon.
I don't think they...
