Of course it does. The 7th characer denotes body type. In the legend for body type the number 8 refers to blazer/jimmy bodies. It's the 10th character that indicates model year.
Given enough brake cleaner, yes I've seen them reused. Depends on how soaked they are. I think metalic shoes are less likely to get saturated then conventional asbestos shoes.
Just check your bearings closely for damage. Replacing wheel seals is cheap insurance. I just purchased completely new brakes off one of the NOS axles from Hillbilly Wizard. Great price
If you take a 16 ft car trailer and a second truck, you will come back with 5. They nest very well. The bigger question is if you will be able to get GL to stack them up or be forced to go off base and contract a wrecker. Any members super close to Barstow with a wrecker?
Since you're not concerned with electrical, we won't need to discuss the run on starter or the dual voltage issues of the truck. You will need tools, extra fuel filters, credit card and a phone (with a way to charge it.) Might could add a fuel can as the gauges aren't always accurate. The one...
While not a 5 ton, I used to do this all the time while piggybacking deuces. If doing this on a driving truck remember you are effectively shortening the wheelbase and unloading a bit of front end weight. Driving characteristics will change.
For a basic vehicle, the learning curve can get frustrating for some. You could try it but have a contingency plan in place. I have AAA Platinum which nets me a tow of up to 200 miles.
The stanadyne 80 base can be very user friendly or very frustrating, depending on how it feels. I've always been a staunch advocate for the 80 base but recently I've started switching all my stuff over to the FM100 stuff. Spin on filters for these were surplussed in mass a year or so back so...
I would suggest reading this thread. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?101135-M1010-DUVAC-Removal-Plan-quot-B-quot Does the 87 have the A/C compressor? If I could swing it, I would convert all my trucks to the aforementioned 200A system.
Any spray lube will get the job done for sure. I've also seen the cover on the wrong way. The cover on the truck is actually supposed to lock into the notch on the trailer plug. I've had one or two that fought me every time I put them together. I now carry a can of silicone spray. I'm told...
There is one little bracket that has to be obtained from a donor truck to use the burb seats. Its the front inboard mount for each seat. Its a small tower welded to the floor.
Those seats are fairly thin. If I recall, they are normally suspended with straps. Why not incorporate some square tube and make a frame that attaches to the factory bench sliders and adapt the seats to that. You could add the 3rd seat or the Tuffy right to the tracks. Only drawback is that...
