I am not totally "up" on the issue, but I have not heard of any farmers having to change anything on farm equipment to run it. It will be interesting to learn what the situation is.

As a friend of mine says in this kind of situation, "It ain't any good like it is, so---". Try laying it on a hard surface and starting gently, tap it with a hammer along its length to try to break it loose. Rotate it so you tap on all sides. You can get more aggressive with the tapping force as...
Not enough power in a deuce to dig down???? You must have the fuel setting
REALLY low. We can spin wheels in first gear low range in an M543A2 5 ton wrecker, and the dueces will do it easily in second low range. They are a real disappointment to drive with the fuel setting too low...
Is your cable stuck? I have been able to salvage cables by taking them completely out of the truck and bending them all ways for a time until they come loose. I then put one end in a container of oil and work the cable back and forth to bring the oil up into the cable housing. I do this with...
The lights on the trailer will probably be 24 volt, so they will not work. The light cord plug will likely not fit your current vehicle plug. You will need a magnetic bar.
I would not worry about lunette height too much to get it home, but others who have one on this site will hopefully give you...
I adapted a State Highway angling plow over to mine. I did not have any problems with tweaked frame, etc. in 15 years of using it. You will have weight lifter's arms after steering it for a long time! Use low range, and I would highly recommend getting the engine oil out of the transmission and...
Porting and polishing has minimal affect on a turbocharged engine. Naturally aspirated motors, yes, turbocharged no. The advice about turning up the fuel and if you want, propane are good. I had propane on a Dodge Cummins for 10 years with no problems. It will not make it run wild, and adds a...
You do not need to turn it any direction to extend. You only need to turn it to lock in the extended position or release it from lock in the extended position. It appears something might have gotten down between the internal pipe and the outer housing. You might have to take the whole assembly...
I agree with the comments of the others in this thread. If the gauge is lighted, many time we find we can find a 24 volt bulb that will fit in the same socket. I bought my gauges from Aricraft Spruce. Enter their name in Google and they will come up. Look for EGT gauges. They have quite a...
I used an M-135 for over 20 years for hauling grain, stone, pulling an implement trailer, and with a 11' snow plow in the winter. When I bought it, I saw it had engine oil in the transmission, so I went to the local transmission shop to talk with the owner, who had worked on these transmissions...
I bought mine in Wisconsin and drove it home towing an M880. The distance was about 330 miles. We made easy 55 to 60 MPH running 2600 to 2700 all the way. we turned up the fuel before leaving so it was not the characteristic doggy setting they have from the military. I have said many times, and...
The five tons we have all have a switch that triggers the brake lights in an air line at the booster, not the master cylinder. When the air pressure goes to the booster to apply the brakes, it triggers the switch. It is inside the passenger side frame rail behind the master cylinder. It has two...
I think you are going to have to have it happen again so you can tell what is happening. I doubt it is an axle problem, but anything is possible. A lock-up like this can happen if the transmission does not come completely out of one gear because of a shift rail problem in the transmission cover...
The early non-airshift trucks had a linkage from the transmission to the transfer case that shifted the sprag in the tc (transfer case) from forward to reverse. The gear ratio for the front output shaft on their tc is different from the ratio to the rear axles. The sprag is an overrunning clutch...
I have owned an M543A2 for four years on the farm here. We have been VERY happy with it. It is so much nicer than using a Payloader or backhoe to pick up heavy objects. The precision with which heavy items can be placed is really good and is a big safety factor. If we want to position an engine...
You will find the 5 ton had a very different drive flange for the output and input shafts. You would have top have some machining done to make adapters to fit the shafts to the t-case.
We have never torn out a deuce t-case with turned up engines, so I do not think strength will be a big...
Tempered metal will definitely be affected by the heat of a fire if it is intense enough. Metal that is not tempered, like body panels, could warp, but the temper is not there so it will not affect it. There could be warping to the point doors, windows, and such do not fit right anymore. Since...
It is not easy to answer because there are several sizes of bolts used, depending on application and where.
All of the bolts on mine are SAE sizes, no metric. They are probably 5/16, 3/8, 1/2 inch and so on. Be sure the threads are clear so the bolt can thread in. Check to see if they are...
