Air lines on the transmission are for the transfer case- it sends a signal to let the transfer case know if you are in forward or reverse gear. Should make a thunk sound when going from forward to reverse or the other way.
I am not sure what you mean by 1 way sprauge, but as far as I know all the older 5 ton trucks with a sprague transfer case should have the same size tire front and rear.

My M816 came from the military with a Jacobs brake already installed. They had to put a "box" in the hood to clear the raised valve covers in the rear. There are several posts about putting an air cut off for the sprag t-case to put it in "neutral".
The early 5 tons (M39 series) had a gas engine originally. The cargo version (14 foot bed) is a M54, not sure on the long wheel base number. I would not call them rare but they are kinda hard to find.

One question I have - what about brakes? Are you gonna upgrade the old outdated single circuit ones? That will probably set you back a little bit. If you are gonna tow that much, better upgrade the brakes also.

My credit union ( Navy Federal) is very good about monitoring my card for me and calls me when something is not right on the card.
Edit: for info purpose - the charges were from Target in North Carolina, haven't been to that state in over 30 years!!
