Go for it on adding the turbo. We did it on my son's truck, turned up the fuel to compensate for the added air's ability to burn it, and have been driving it for several years with no problem. Highly recommended!

Lance:
You might have had a wheel weight come off. I saw you leaving Drexel with the trailer. I did not see this thread quickly enough to help out by picking it up when I was there.

I changed an M135 to an M211. I had a donor M211 I took the rear hubs with drums off of and changed with the M135 hubs. I was advised that was how I had to do it. The drum spacing was different because of the different offset of the hub flange. The hubs and drums had to be changed as a unit. No...
I have a Canadian M37 I put a winch on. The shift pattern is different, as I noticed when I drove a US truck. The engine is also different. Larger displacement and longer block.
You're welcome. Go on Ebay and check out item #190027703760 for example. I don't know how good you are with mechanical work, but the small amount of attention this one needs might be within your capabilities. Others appeart regularly. GSA website is gsaauctions.gov.

Yes, I have had them freeze. Especially vulnerable is the wrecker with all of the air controls. Go to your local NAPA store. They have the correct alcohol compound for these systems.
What went wrong with yours? You might try Vintage Power Wagons in Iowa. They have a very large supply of parts. You should find them at www.vintagepowerwagons.com and 888-695-0578.

My son and I have four of the 880 series trucks. We do not modify them with big tires and other stuff, just leave them stock as the factory engineers spent a lot of time designing them to be right. One of our military ones even had power stering on it. The prices you have been quoted seem very...
There is a nice transmission removal hoist made by the military for this job. I happened to pick one up on Govliquidation a few years ago. It has legs that sit on the cab floor each side of the opening with a winch and cable you attach to the trans. The winch drum is supported by bearings on a...
These experiences with the 465 engine in pulling confirm my position on the 465 motor for years: it is not a fragile motor! I have seen many posts from people saying that touching the fuel screw is to guarantee motor destruction. My son and I have several trucks with the fuel turned up, and have...
For those interested in looking up the tractor that used this engine on websites, it was the White 2-155 model. My neighbor has one, and likes it very well. I could get some pics of a stock installation from it if interested.
The pump and injector sustem is different from the military. It is...
M211 Parts
To answer your question about parts, my experience has been good. Memphis Equipment has them, and probably Saturn, a sponsor of this site. The engine is like the civilian motor except for the waterproof ignition. I got gaskets, etc. from NAPA. One definite word of advice: Get the...
M211
I own several of these trucks, some parts trucks. The M135 was the single tire version. The M135 hubs and rims were different to offset the tires out wider for stability as compared to just taking off the outer wheels on a dual wheel M211. The M135 rims had a shallower offset, and the...
Interaxle Shaft Modification
Readyman:
I'm not sure I understand your concept. How do you keep the shafts from separating when in the unlocked position? If they do, major problem! Or, do you intend to remove the shafts, and use the slider as an easier means of alignment when putting the...
Tow Bar Pins
If you are not looking for original appearance, you can make some out of 0-1 tool steel, unheat treated. We have used this steel for farm tractor hitch pins, etc. with no failures. I have a homemade tow bar for the trucks and use this material for my pins. We have towed five ton...
For our M543A2 and our M35 we remove an axle on the front tandem. We cap the deuce hub with a front axle cap, and for the five ton we have an old axle we torched the axle shaft off the cap and use the cap to cover the hub. It does not do a lot of good to remove the front driveshaft because it is...
When we brought home our M543A2, the turbo bearings and seals let go about 10 miles from home. The resulting smoke cloud would make a locomotive jealous! There was never any signs of the engine trying to run wild. We had black oil deposits all over the side of the truck. We made sure the...
