I just did mine after reading many posts. Short of it is remove old put on new, open bleed screw on top of filter housing, put drain hose into bottle, crank engine , it may run for a few seconds and stall. I did change mine while engine was hot so glow plugs did not need to cycle. Cranked over...
It will probably at minimun need glow plugs, which is why it is also hard starting when cold. Not a deal breaker, fairly easy fix. It should idle down after 4-5 min run time from dead cold of about 30-35 degrees F.
What does the exhaust look like, white, blue, black, clear? Also what does...
You are saying that the engine will crank over but will not start, unless you use either, then it will start and drive.
I would check the glowplug circuit according to the TM. Do not use either once you get the glowplugs working or you can do serious damage to the engine.
Looks really nice, I usually don't put mine into drive till the high idle kicks down then the engine is quieter. I don't normally use it as a daily driver as I only drive 1.3 miles to work and the warm up is longer than the drive.
I'll see if I can find it. But its held on with 4 bolts, metric, and there is a short piece of heater hose attached. remove bolts and loosen hose give a alittle persuasion and it should lift out.
Replace hoses if not already done. Spare fuel filters, never know what you might pick up, starter and alternator if you can. fuses and your metric tools.
Have a safe trip.
Ditto. I would also make sure battery cables are clean and tight and double check your grounds. There is also a thread named "doghead starter relay modification" that is a must do for the cucv's.
I may just take you up on that, I'm hopeing to be down sometime in feb. I won't make the rally either, no day passes this year, and i'm not sure when of for how long i'll be there.
Yes they are noisey, although mine did become noticibly quiter after I had the heads redone and installed an intake manifold from the 6.2 Hmm. Also how far and long did you run them. At 14 degrees it would probably take about a half hour of running to come up to a decent temp, and the warmer...
