a buddy of mine builds hot rods for folks with lots of money
this is THE system he uses and swears by them as do his customers
so I can't give you a specific, but if it's going in a hot rod (32 style) with no top, I figure it should work in a CUCV as well
I predict a rebuild in your future
probably plates slipping until they warm up
but that is a HUGE GUESS on my part
I'm sure somebody else will speak up
and note you did NOT get a full page of 'shoulda, coulda, woulda' from every one here - of course, you gave WAY more info than GM-1008 did in his original post, but he gave more pix
just sayin...
WOW, seems everyone's jumping on GM-1008
he did say his truck had sat a week and he DID the usual underhood preinspection (lot more than folks who drive civi ever do)
his belt let loose
empty brake cylinder? MAYBE, but as was said, NO WAY it was empty and the rear brakes work AT ALL - so...
WHAT Mistaken1 said.
but SPECIFICALLY check the ground wire. it's up under the dash on the drivers side wall WAY up under the dash.
it's a three pronged affair (three spades in a row) and there should be ONE ground wire that goes up to that. mine LOOKED good but as soon as I touched it -...
Craig,
Is that a GEARS seat cover I see on the drivers seat?
LOVE MINE FOR SURE...
I put one on each of the front seats - love having all the storage on the seat backs
AND unless I'm mistaken, that M1009 came from Ft. Riley last summer. The M1009 that I kept ALSO came from Ft. Riley...
That looks hand fabbed
hopefully someone can tell us what it is
it is NOT what is in the TM - at least not that I remember
and I'll second you GOTTA HAVE the full set of TM's
I have mine, both on my hard drive so where ever my laptop is (HP NR3610), I have my TM's - but I also keep one on CD...
AceHigh,
I got my socket at O'Reilly's - or maybe Checkers
For about $20 - $25
late last year - you REALLY need one of these if you are going to own CUCV's, you will use it many times in the coming years
EDIT - and I gotta say that is well written and documented thread on a very useful...
Pawnshop,
Is that your new M1028?
And if so, is it registered as a FMV?
And if that's true, it looks like you went with bumper numbers?
could I get a set of front and rear pix?
Craig, Is that your M1009? Registered FMV? Bumper numbers? Pix please of rear?
You gotta get back to Texas any way you can. Sooner, rather than later.
I was SO GLAD to get back 'home'. While I was born in OK, I was raised in Texas from the age of 1 - 25, at which time I left.
I'm 58 and I'm tired and wanted to just go home where I understood the way things worked and I...
OK, I just moved from Colorado to Texas.
The basic difference is that in Texas you paint the numbers on the truck front and rear and that becomes the license plate numbers (so to speak)
I still don't have to run plates, so I'm a happy camper...
I know, I know... PIX
Ya gotta know where...
OK, let me also suggest you folks consider changing out your battery cables.
I cannot tell you how BAD a shape most battery cables are. They rot and rust and sulfate inside the whole length of the cable.
If you have NOT replaced ALL your cables, it is cheap insurance. You can swap out...
Cooper Discoverer M+S
for a little over $110 per copy, I find that these have worked well in both mud and snow, and I ran them in Colorado winters for three years with excellent results.
You can get them almost everywhere.
hndrsonj,
did it come with the buck seats or is that an 'add on'?
not a criticism, I flat love it and am considering doing this but have wondered what it would look like
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THAT PIX - it will help me decide which way to go
love the truck and the new paint does look great...
wreckerman893,
that's only true of the M1009 - the other CUCV's are basically pickup trucks and do not suffer this problem
but yeah, if you own an older truck like the Blazer/Suburban or Bronco that has the rear window that rolls down, chances are good that it will have problems with the rear...
No, they ALL get their replacement parts (that I'm aware of) from a CHINESE supplier that uses pot metal that might be less than ideal for the application...
the BEST thing to do is find someone that has a working one and purchase that (or a junk yard reclaimation), which is what I've done in...
idM1028,
Yah left out the important part... FROM THE STORY ABOVE...
“It was when the 6.2 came out in ‘82 that we started to do some things with it and it was from that point, 1982, that I thought, ‘You know, we need to find a way to do a racer with a diesel.’ We built a 6.2 for drag racing...
