2cents Don't poke thru the wire, unless you want corrosion issues. You live in Mi? Does it snow and do they salt the road? If you think you have an issue now wait till you poke and drive on salted roads a few times aua . Use a DVOM. If you jump across the brake switch, do the lights work?

Keep in mind, the refining process for diesel has changed. It is now much more refined than it was 15 - 20 years ago. It is almost like Jet fuel. Some of the fuel smells like gasoline. I have a hard time telling the difference.

White is unburned fuel, as in airiated, timing, low cyl pressures. Black indicates not enough air to complete the combustion process, like excessive fuel delivery, poor atomization, air starvation...no blades on the turbo, turbo not turning, a severely plugged filter. 2cents

If I put too much gas in the mix I run, it gets hard to start and hunts at idle. Maybe try adding 5 or 10 gallons of diesel to the tank and see how that works.

I 'd love to drive a 5T. Did it have a multi, Cummins 855 or a Cummins C in it?

Does it build air OK? If so, youu could have a restriction...carbon or a kink.
