Dynamat looks a whole lot easier than that spray on sound deadener. I had heard that butyl rubber roofing... the self adhesive stuff you get a lowes... does a good job as well. Peel and stick.
Lucas for the gear noise, 1 or 2 mufflers (There's room enough to stack 2 of those Walker/Dynomax...
The data I'm seeing is actually indicating it would be hard to over-water... even at a 1:1 ratio, the engine will run fine. It would just waste water and possibly over-cool. Check out the Army study I linked where they were injecting 9 parts water to each part diesel in the test cylinders...
Yep... Joules and metric. The math is just easier.
The injector size is known... if we know the pressure and the duration we can compute the flow pretty precisely...
...but I think we can cheat.
We know the flow rate for the LDT @ 135hp, and for the LDS @180hp... So I think I'll be...
This was taken from a company that specializes in water injection for gasoline powered engines.
What that means for us is up for interpretation. Diesel can handle vastly more water than gasoline... also, in the gas engine, the water acts as a method of preventing detonation, whereas we are...
My newest bit of pleasure reading....

These guys ran test engines at a water to diesel rate of 9 to 1!!!!! They were attempting to completely cool the engine with water injected into the combustion chamber.
They found...
What congress-critter's district is the Segway produced in? Those things cost more than golf carts, only carry one person, and make the user a laughing stock.
I call pork.
That link is the best price I have ever found for quality pyrometers! Thank you.
I'm not 100% on my flow rates... this was just extrapolated from engines of similar displacement. I will say that is how powerful this system can be. We might not even need 1/2 of that flow rate for casual use, at...
Staged works... it would just be cumulative effect of one small + "x" other small stages. My only thought on keeping it at one is, cost rises as (1+x)(cost of nozzle and hobbes switch)=$...
I'm cheap.
Also, if we are only compensating for the slight increase in fuel burn from turning the 140hp...
All I'm looking for is a cheap way folks can keep their EGTs down on the highway, and keep their cylinders clean when running WMO and lots of idling.
Pure water should be safe and effective method.... if I can get the ratio right, and keep the parts list short, common, and cheap. I have no...
I figured this would be under max power... on-ramps, heavy towing, and stoplights.... this is the big dog max system that keeps you from blowing the engine when you have the screw cranked and the peddle on the bolt. I have been looking for better numbers than 80lbs per hour for the LDS @180hp...
BTW Cummins86, welcome to the addiction.
I'll edit this when I find the names I'm looking for, but there are a couple of guys up in your neck of the woods who have a list of lube and other tricks for these trucks for winter operations.
Here is another good thread...
Awesome thread guys... officially subscribed.
I was going to use John Deere "Blitz Black" as my base for a durable, metal friendly, cost effective flat paint. But I'm thinking Behr is a better choice after reading your success stories.
I think the base of Battleship Grey will be easier to have...
Most guys have similar minds... "New toy! How fast can I make it go?"
I'm of the club of "New toy! How can I make it into a Swiss Army knife, and last forever?
He'll learn to search, and read...
All of the math formulas I'm finding are for gasoline engines. The sites that have kits for diesels don't give injector sizes at specific pressures, or flow rates...
I'm looking at these...
Nozzle: 3178K76 McMaster-Carr
Solenoid valve: McMaster-Carr
That combo should be good for about...
I have solenoid valves and injector nozzles... 24V compatible!!
Seriously, I should be able to put this together for $200...
Part numbers to follow.... I'm trying to pick injector sizes, and flow rate required.
The B-1B has the same abilities. My friend worked on the "Bone" and talked a lot about them being able to leave F-15s in the dust for the same reason. And how it would take 1 hour and 20 minutes to cut one bulkhead out to restore the bomb bay of the B-1B to it's pre-treaty capacity...
Think about the BMPs and the BTRs... you always see the troops riding on the tops, because the air handling systems inside never work.
The Soviets had some very good ideas, but implementation requires you care about what you are building. The bosses didn't care, the workers didn't care, and...
