    Alarm systems

The RFID thing is a cool idea but it would take them so long to find a plain old kill switch that in reality they are going to give up before they find it. Add a second one and there's just no way. If they can find those they can bypass the RFID given that much time. And with a couple switches -...

    Alarm systems

What features are you looking for? No one pays any attention to an audible "car alarm" going off. It might as well be elevator music. I question the utility. If someone wants in they are going to get in. And if that someone is in the frame of mind to break into a giant Army truck you best...

    Engine cooling fan won’t engage

I will add that these fans are plastic and it's not a forever material. My 2008 fan already had small cracks forming in the plastic that had yellowed significantly from age. When I did my AC belt pulley I installed a new clutch and a new fan. Having a fan blade snap off and get sucked into the...

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

I replaced all of mine. But note that my truck was in Kuwait and El-Paso till late 2021 when I drove it home. Only 2,750 miles, but all three of my engine transducers have failed or thrown codes. It's worth the peace of mind to replace the 15 year old sensors - the boost pressure in particular...

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

Then something is broken. Probably the gauge considering it doesn't go to zero with power on/engine off. Test oil pressure with a mechanical shop gauge and then fix/replace whatever is broken with the stock system to get it reading correctly.

    Camper Upgrades

So do you not have the truck yet? Or did you just get one? You don't seem that familiar with them. My point about the AC was that it makes the defrost/defog actually WORK. For that elevation I could see the need. Remember It's "conditioning" the air - that's not just cooling. Dry air that is...

    Camper Upgrades

It's only in the front, but yes all of them are equipped with the suspension squat cylinder rams. This is for loading the trucks on an air-transport and not for driving them around. But what height are you using for your measurement? Cab height? If you add a habitat it will get a lot taller for...

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

Does the gauge zero itself when powered on? Because 60-65 is not a likely correct reading based on what I've seen on a lot of other trucks. Usually between 20 and 40.

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

The off position isn't important as long as the gauge calibrates itself when you turn the ignition on. If it doesn't read zero with the ignition on and engine off then you need to investigate why. Start it up and let it get to full operating temp on high idle and once the fans cycle a few times...

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

It's going to change with temperature and RPM...... Under what circumstances is yours reading 70? If it always reads 70 under all conditions then something is wrong. That's probably a bad reading that's not reflecting reality. The general rule is 10 psi per 1,000 RPM at a minimum. Every...

Oil pressure gauge all over the place.

It does sound like a connection problem. But the 3126 and C7 both do have oil pump issues and the pumps for them have gone through a couple design changes so I would find out why it's reading funky and why it's bouncing when it does read. Not something you want to kick down the road on the HEUI...

    Hub temperatures

You can typically touch them without significant discomfort - at 175 that's not the case - for most people anything much over 130 degrees is too hot for more than a second or two. Rear's share gear oil with differential so if gear oil was low (besides there being evidence on the ground...

    Hub temperatures

Rears are hotter than fronts - which is it? Have you done a hub and wheel bearing service? Checked the oil levels in the front hubs and rear differential (and front for that matter)?

Looking for M1078A1 ABS troubleshooting guide

Yeah not the greatest approach but that is literally what the military would do. Have some grunts clean the wheel speed sensors because in their experience it's the most common issue and often corrects the problem (ABS MIL). So for someone that has no capability to talk to the computer it's at...

    Diagnostic Readers

When all the LED stuff from China runs on 10-30v, the DPA3/4 and the CAT computer don't care about the voltage it's kind of inexcusable for any product that connects to this interface and may encounter anything between 10v and 30v to not handle this gracefully. Even on a 12v vehicle you can see...

    Gen2 always blows hot

Hard to tell from those pictures. The actuators can definitely be interfered with from what I recall. I routed my air lines through that mess on the bench before I installed the whole console into the truck so I could ensure they didn't interfere with any of their operation.

    Help With TM's

This has recalled to my mind a torque "unfortunate mishap" occurrence to which I was party. While "training" in the rebuild process of a rotary screw compressor "air end" assembly, we came to about an M8 socket head cap screw with a very specific torque value as it was THE bolt that held the...

    Help With TM's

Also worth mentioning that all that stuff is just standard Caterpillar C7 torque values and the TM is just a (lowest bidder) reinterpretation of the Caterpillar manual specifications. And it goes without saying I think that all the threads need to be clean and undamaged, the bolts all in the...

Speaking of Tires: PSA of Stupidity

Surprisingly common on military trailers - especially water buffalo's. Hard to tell the smoke from the dust with the parking brake not being released when you're moving out down a dry dirt/gravel road...... I wouldn't know anything about that though. 🙄
