M1009 exhaust smell in the cab

That will do it. All of the above create a vacuum and draw the exhaust into the cabin. Same as a sliding rear window in a pick up truck. Designed to vacuum out the bed when you open the drivers or passengers side window with the slider open. hate them. Never have another one in any pick up I...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Do you need transfer case parts? I still have that NP241 from an 88 1 ton with a TH400.

    WHAT? I am lost.

    M1028 Gen 1 Issue

Should be an M6 stud with a nut on back of the alternator. I use a battery cable when I replace mine. I do excessive grounding. It helps. I bought a truck that had electrical issues and would not start. I replaced the starter and it still did nothing. It had the ground cable missing from the...

    M1009 Brake Issue

This is my M1009 after sitting wrecked since 2007. Very clean. I kept it well maintained and it helped. Good Luck. The MC is warranted for life at Autozone.

    M1028 Gen 1 Issue

The left over wire is the isolated ground wire from the left Gen 1 alternator. It is bolted on back of the alternator ground stud and runs to the intake stud in the cross over for the thermostat. Check it out and report back.

Cracked a TH400 case and support brackets with a NP205

Not that torque/strut rod controversy again. I found one the other day while I was cleaning the barn. Tagged 1987 K10. Gm must have used them for a long time. This was a 700R and 208 set up. Just for the record. I like them and will be putting them on every truck I build going forward. Stop...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Twas the weeks before Christmas and all thru the barn. I was not resting and taking care of the farm. The Blazer was hung from the barn beams with care in hopes that a donor frame soon would be there. And Then. And Then. Lesson for the night. Harbor freight casters are scrap. Even free ones. I...

M1009 exhaust smell in the cab

IMHO. They are not cracks. They are cast marks from being made. I see that stuff in the castings all the time. From where I am sitting and seeing what you are showing. I say no worries mate. Continue on. Just double check the bell bolts for tightness and make sure all the fasteners are tight and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Heck no you have to get the real 2 stroke / quadra-trac grease. Anything else will cause the tailpipes to smoke excessively during cold starts. My smoke shifter was stuck shut for 10 years and I just opened it up. Big 5" ones. WOW. They take lots of grease and oil. Happy Holidays.

    M1009 Brake Issue

Yea not sure. I used the Mighty Vac and had it bled in 10 minutes time. What is a cheapo hand pump? Not that it matters but I was using DOT 5 fluid. Running out of containers. Don't you cycle the clean fluid back thru? Or once thru you dispose of it? You mentioned you completely flushed the system.

    M1009 Brake Issue

Did you thoroughly bleed the rear brakes? I had this issue a few times and used the mighty vac and drew all the air from the system. Other times a few pumps and boom its solid. I suspect air in the system. My last frame off M1008 I bled the brakes in 10 minutes. (with the height sensor) On a...

Front axles not working in 4 wheel drive

This is what I found on my neighbors m1028 when he told me the 4WD was not working. Lack of maintenance kills the best of them.

Pictures of how a Gauge Cluster wiring is supposed to look.

You need a new printed circuit board. And it does appear to be altered and that will be hard to repair. It looks like it may be easier to replace the entire harness.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I say it's time to jack up the cab and change the frame bushings. And while your at it the muffler bearings and smoke shifter need greased real good. Happy Holidays.

M1009 exhaust smell in the cab

No need to drain any oil. Just be careful or the oil in the lines will drain on you. Have rags and gloves nearby to keep the job and yourself clean. 7/8" & 3/4" wrench to get the lines off. A 7/16" to get the clamps apart. Good Luck. report back. Happy Holidays. Wear safety glasses.

M1009 exhaust smell in the cab

It is not a bad job. Or should I say it has not been bad for me the last 3 sets I changed. I have been using the Dorman lines and have had great success and have been able to change them on and off in about 1 - 1 1/2 hours. The clamp and all start to finish. Tip is if you can get the clamp...

    1985 Chevrolet CUCV M1028

Neighbor stopped over and told me the 4WD don't work on my old M1028. Imagine that. I ask when the last time someone serviced the hubs. He said never. I sold the truck to his Dad about 4 years ago and they just drove it and did very little maintenance. The transmission went out after he had it a...

    Blower fan switch M1009

Behind the rear battery. Check that plug on the resistor. See if it is corroded or loose. That won't help keep the dash switch cool and trouble free if it needs some cleaning. Good Luck.

M1009 exhaust smell in the cab

I think you have oil cooler lines leaking onto the exhaust pipes. You are getting the smell thru the heater because it is going up the cowl and into the inside. Just an idea. I have just changed 3 sets of oil cooler lines in the past 30 days. I have 2 more sets to change on plow trucks. Report...
