Since floor space is at a premium and the M1009 will be torn down for a few months I opted to store everything in bins and in a large job box. Helps keep things in order and easy to find when I get back to reassembly. The cab cart did not fit the M1009 floor plan. That has slowed me down to a...
All this was done today before lunch. I drove this in the shop yesterday. All original battery cables and wiring in decent condition. Master cylinder fluid is nice and clean. Very clear I can see the bottom of the reservoir. Front brakes were locked up. I was unable to move the chassis by hand...
Adding two-stroke oil for lubricity
I did the 2 cycle oil add yesterday. I added 2 cycle to the hole saw for cutting thru the steel angle to lift my M1009 off the frame. Great results. Smoked a little and smelled just like the Stihl and was quieter then the Stihl. It worked. Great in oil cans...
I am up bright and early today. I have to come up with a plan to get the body winched high and the chassis frame away from the body. I want to get them both in my shop to stay for the entire winter. I cleaned and removed just about everything I could except a spare 6.2 engine. I opted to use a...
I wasted no time today. I was on task early and stayed going in the right direction. I received a lot of help from the Family and friends. The Wife stuck with me in the cold with the doors open all day. I met my weekend goal and exceeded it with the top and gate removed. The gate took some...
I didn't see any PM's in my box. I have them on the shelf. I would have been quick to help out. And contrary to what others think. Rebuilds are just as good or better then new. I see the man every week that rebuilds all mine. Not sure but we all know where new things come from now a days. The...
Going out to get something done today. Too much sitting around makes me a lazy old man. Can't have that. I have a few CUCV's to work on. Happy Holidays. I want to see the body of the M1009 hanging from the ceiling this weekend.
He said he unplugged it and it still done it. That is why I leaned towards clean and lube. It sounds a bit dry and sticky. Happy Holidays. Please report back on your findings.
First I would remove it and clean it really well and then give it a try. That's just me. They are not a cheap item if they are still available. Lube it with some oil. Not spray lube.
I am moving right along on this Salvage M1009 project. I put the frame in the shop on Wednesday night and it is stripped and at the sand blaster before dark on Friday after work. The axles I removed look great. The 4 leaf spring packs I pitched in the scrap bin. Same as all the U-bolts and...
OK so that gets me an insult for stating the fact. OK explain how that works? And why would an intake of fresh air duct work into the engine have anything to do with emissions? Emissions come out the tailpipe. I am open for schooling cause I don't know everything. Emissions are an exiting gas...
GM still makes a block heater for the 6.2 diesel engine. I don't have the GM part number at my finger tips but it will require removing one of the freeze plugs/expansion plugs from the block. I always remove the left center one and install the block heater in that hole. It works well and I have...
It was only emissions exempt while the Department of defense owned it. After that is must be compliant. The sticker on the core support of the m1009 clearly out lines that. It civilian life it is a 1984-1987 Chevrolet station wagon. Not an emissions exempt truck. I have my inspection license...
Thank you for the nomination and the support. I try hard to do the best job I can in good taste and also sticking to the original floor plan has helped to hike the value of my finished products. Not 100% original but I have researched and tried the improve mostly on the rust issues. IMHO that is...
1/4" headed screw on the inside middle of switch. Lay down and look up. You can do it with a 1/4" nut driver or just take the bezel back out. I know the feeling. Good Luck. No radio and it is fairly easy.
If you are good and it has no radio you can reach up and change it, You will need to pull the knob from the switch to get it thru the control. It is not impossible and removing the bezel can be easy also. Good Luck. Get an awe so you can line up the screw holes on the bezel.
Do you have a ground wire from the alternator case stud to the engine/intake. That is an isolated ground alternator. I just glanced quickly at the post. If you covered that disregard my advise. Thank you. Happy Holidays.
We still have 3 hours on the east coast till the polls close. Please cast a vote for my CUCV M1008 project. If you already have done so Thank You. I will try to uphold the same pride and attention to detail in my newest build. I am redoing an M1009 that has sat wrecked for the last 10 years...
I have all the brake/fuel lines off the frame. All the bolt on brackets and rubber bump stops are off. This is a 30 year old frame that was on a 35K mile M1009. I bought it and it had no title and the rear axle was missing out of it. I removed a crate axle and started putting it in and never...
