What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

I have come to the conclusion that the OEM oil cooler lines have reached maximum life use at this point in time. It may just be a fluke but a friend called and his lines are leaking . Just started yesterday. That makes 3 sets of oil cooler lines in the past month. Check your lines. If they are...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

My 4 tires mounted on wheels arrived tonight. They are low profile tires. They were free and mounted for free. They were the only 15" tires that came thru the tire shop today. P195/60 15 and P215/60 15. They look goofy but I will be able to limp it the 150 feet to the shop for dissecting it...

    Letting the crankshaft drop

I have a little secret. I would not loosen the main bearings. I would use a 15/16" socket and turn the crank clockwise while trying to install the seal. Fish it in that way. I have done this method in the past. But never had all the issues you are having. I wonder if some genius didn't apply...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

Batteries are in place and the lights all light. The glow plugs engaged. No crank. And what to my wandering eyes should appear. A missing starter relay and shiny new one. Now lets see what we have. Hope to make it happen. It glowed and fired just like in the movies. Belts were a squealing and...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Excellent advise. I always replace the isolators for the radiators. I never had any Spectras just fail. For that part I never had any radiator just up and fail in a few years. I still like the plastic aluminum radiators best. But they still need to be aligned and seated tight and straight.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

We. I said WE. We were out cleaning up the M1009 salvage area this AM. I am going out after lunch to get the M1009 started. I am taking the leaf blower to the entire vehicle and installing a set of batteries. I am happy with what I am finding thus far. Can't wait to get the 4 wheels and tires...

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Crown of Thorns M1009 with a Dana 60 front axle. I read the TM's and could NOT find how it was supposed to be installed in the M1009. Not sure of what the attraction is. Seems a bit cumbersome to me. I thought this out and wanted to move the axles without tearing up the lawn. The Wife and Grand...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

First thing I am going to do is get 4 tires put on wheels. This M1009 has a 4" lift kit all 4 springs and shocks with the pitman arm riser. That will all go on sale when I get to that point. I am returning it to stock height. I may leave the 5" tailpipes on just because they are new and no need...

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

I have had this frame sitting since 1999 and the cab has been there about 12 years. This is the frame I will be using. I have plans on stripping it bare and having it sand blasted.

1986 CUCV M1009 Decade after being wrecked.

After sitting wrecked in the field for 10 years I am going to pull this M1009 in and tear it down to the bare bones. Body looks great. Some minor rust. I rebuilt this M1009 back in 2006-2007. It was done about 2-3 months and my Son wrecked it in the Marine Reserve parking lot. I trailered it...

1986 M1008 Easter Find 2015 I bought this truck back in 1995 and sold it to a local man/friend. It was running 19 years and he decided to give it up for inspection reasons. It had a few rust and starting issues. It was only driven 25K miles in the 19 years it was gone. I was up for the...

    Meet Mr Rusty

Mr. Rusty has passed the check up. I added the fender rubbers to the inner fenders. I bolted them in place. I replaced the batteries with a pair of 950 CCA Exide group 31 batteries. I replaced the washer switch on the wiper motor and solved the endless wash cycle. When I test drove it for the...

    Letting the crankshaft drop

OK. What is sneaky Pete? And what is it trying to bite. I push them new seals around by hand. I stop at 8 and 2 and then put the cap one in at the same setting tighten it up and done.

Oil cooler lines - Napa, build your own with AN fittings, or hack/rig the stockers?

The Dorman oil cooler lines. Fit and finish A +. Less then 1 hour and they were in place. I did run a bolt thru the back side of the manifold bracket so I had a stud to get the clamp back on. Added a flat washer and lock nut. Just made it easier. Dorman get my vote. Even over the A C Delco. I...
