It was a late night. I apologize again.
I understand that the M35A2 has been pulled from the entire armed forces for disposal... I would think that H7/F7 would be blanket terms for anything they won't fix again. But, are the ones being sold now, towards the end of the population, the ones they...
I had heard a rinse after soda blasting with water and a bit of vinegar could neutralize the residue for paint. Any recommendations for the ratio, or effectiveness?
So... that was helpful.
If someone actually has a real answer such as "F7 could be anything from a blown wheel seal to a tranny in a basket" (hopefully not) Or perhaps what their horror story was coded at, I would love to hear from someone with experience. Obviously, that doesn't lead to...
I keep looking at all those M35A2s sitting at the GL for Fort Knox and trying to balance that with the risk and expense of a 300 mile tow to Michigan. 300 mile drive? No problem...
What do the M35A2s go for at auction? None of these seem to have winches, and all seem to be marked F7... How...
I used to volunteer with the Kalamazoo Air Zoo back when they flew and I was a kid. Job 1... sweep and clean the hanger. Job 2... pulling props on r2800s. 3... lugging firebottles and getting sunburned marshaling/pulling chocks. They never wanted to risk hydraulic-ing the cylinders, or sheering...
I thought they were all 22:1, but there was a small difference in the design of the "Cup" for turbulence creation, and a coating.
I'm just trying to isolate the 100ft/lbs, 40hp from LDT-1A to LDS-1A because it is the smallest change for the greatest improvement. I don't think the deuce is...
I'm quite dense sometimes... That final example of the 465 series engine would, of course, be the solution to the problems they were seeing in the earlier models.
Stronger rod bolts and a main stud girdle, lightening the rotating assembly and balancing, all the old tricks we use on gas...
Is there a resource you could think of other than just tracking the ones users here have encountered? I'm familiar with #6 cyl block failures in seriously cranked up engines, and remember reading that someone was investigating ARP bolts to beef up the bottom ends. (I assumed that meant...
Ahh... my apologies.
When the search ran when I started the thread, nothing came up that was relevant.
I did not use the search function directly.
Thank you,

Has anyone here ever found a way to have a truck shipped by rail? It would seem to be the cheapest way...
I'm trying to find the lowest cost option to move an M35A2 long distances... I'm seeing trucks I like, just not local.
Thanks for any information you may have,
Heath
I'm thinking that particular LDT might have LDS pistons as well. If they put solid pins in, I'm thinking it was because they only used oiled pistons at the same time. It's the same short-block, and this wrist pin swap makes me think even more they were just putting the updated LDS components in...
But the pistons used in the LDS have hollow cavities for the oil channel... I would lay a wager the two offset. The problem would be if you had a "Solid" LDT piston and a solid LDS pin (heavy). An LDS piston and the LDT pin might also cause a problem (Light), but a nicer one to deal with if you...
I'm working on it... I used to work for Freightliner of K-zoo back when they were on Osterhout. I'm familiar with diesels, just not THESE. I know a few guys who I heard used to work in the motor pool "back in the day" and I'm hoping to bribe one to ride along.
What I have so far is this...
Most of the quotes I have gotten for shipping an M35A2 by rail from say... Alabama... to Kalamazoo run between $500-$800. Pick up and drop-off at the rail station.
So, if I can get a deal on a truck here, that runs and drives, I have that one advantage. I'm going to check it out, and try to...
You may be right. But if there is no interference issue the idea of higher ratio intake rockers might be one to consider, even if the LDS turns out to be the same as the LDT. Those wouldn't be bad to knock out in the machine shop. Small chunks of good steel, a fairly simple shape...
I have...
I really wondering how many LDS parts made it onto LDT engines after the late 80s. The airflow requirements for the LDT465-1 and -1a are listed as 405cfm, where the LDS465-1 & 1A are listed as 450cfm... Again, LDS465-2 is the monster at 550cfm (Numbers as per TM 2815-210-34-2-1) These engines...
You guys might have just saved me a real headache. I'm supposed to look at them in 2 weeks to pick out what I want... cash in hand. If there is an integrity issue, I could have been really screwed.
Thank you VERY much.[thumbzup]
Thanks for the heads up guys! I was hoping to buy an M35A2 in 2 weeks from them. I will still look, but with a MUCH more skeptical eye. I noticed their stuff looked a lot rougher than the GL auction stuff I see pictures of.
