Yes, the military used US manufactured inverters on SECM (maintenance) HMMWVs as well as Special Forces GMV HMMWVs. They have thick cables feeding them, as Tow4 said, the poor CUCV alternators won’t like it if you decide to pull 4000 watts to power your house during an outage.

Yes that’s the HMMWV alternator and the military never installed either it or a serpentine system on a M1031. Someone did a very clean install looks like, and did away with the finicky dual alternator setup and troublesome V belts.

The dash plate would have this stamped on it: 86K1040 0940-10742 The 86K1040 is not part of the VIN. The 17 digit VIN came about after these trucks were built. The DMV will add zeros to your frame stamped number to make it 17 digits.

The VIN is what is stamped in the frame. You do have a 1985 truck, late Air Force contract.

Easy, take your project to a glass shop, they will have the rubber locking moulding in stock and will know what size to cut the glass so it fits. If they break the glass while installing it, it’s on them. This service is not expensive.

Pretty sure the gasket goes in the opening then the glass goes in, then the locking strip. This is a job for pros that do it all day long. They have tricks.

Yes pull the drive flanges, fashion a bearing cover out of a plastic lid to something, cut a hole in the middle to let the shaft protrude, this will keep the rain out of the bearings somewhat. Don’t worry about rain getting in the center chunk, it’s trash, you will need to replace it later.
