If anyone in or around PA has one and needs one...take it to Middletown Radiator in Middletown PA. They did mine before I put the CAT in. He's an older gent that's been doing them forever. Told me all the nuts and bolts of the design, why they fail, and did a great job at a really great...
Okay, but what else could happen. Lot's of people overload their truck and there are a plethora of reasons from 'because it can take it,' to 'I only had to go a little ways,' ...etc. Now we've all heard Ace (the dreaded tomato guy :) ) and others thoughts on over driving what the demands of...
Like I posted in the 5 ton winch on deuce post...the worm gear can be pulled out and the four bolt bearing plates can be swapped front to rear (along with flipping the worm gear 180*) that way you could have the drive down the passenger side. You could probably mount it just a tad low of center...
Thoughts on this?? Five or Six pictures from the last ones are a couple of the blocks used to space the rear suspension down. Things that make you go, 'Hmmmmm.' ...
My CAT always smokes when I first start it...ESPECIALLY if it's cold out then it will 'hunt' for a couple mins and gradually settle down when it warms up a little. Sounds pretty meant when it hunts! :)
I've done both, gas and diesel in my 715's. Here's pics of a 427TD BBC and a 6.2L GM V8 diesel. Oh, and there's enough room to fit so we better not catch you in the shop with a 'BFH' making room-- :)
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Winch brake grrr.. -DDoyle don
Glad I took the time to speak directly with a manufacturer instead of actual events and TM verbage carved in stone. I'm comfortable with my equipment, everyone else should be comfortable with theirs...even if the end user's verbage...
How many cylinders and is it a turbo? I have a 190D in something and it could use more pep. Also, auto or stick and do you know if the bellhousing is the same as the early '60's 190D-
Another thing that can happen is the in-out clutch can stick to the shaft if it's been in one position for a long time. Penetrating oil and time should loosen it.
The worm gears can be flipped so that it can be spun 180* in the truck and still driven down the driver's side. Mine tucks in a little more than any others would because my CAT V8 is shorter and I moved my radiator back a little bit. For locational reference, my back strap on the winch is 1/8"...
RE: Re: RE: OA331 Gasser Conversion to MF
The little gasser I had in my '53 REO ran real strong...exhaust manifold was cracked to bits though-
Jeli, thank you for posting...I like your avatar. :D
RE: Re: RE: 5 ton in PA
Careful nothing...I have the space so if you need it, lemme know. I think I got a wrecker place that will tow to the farm as well. They charge by the hour-
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Winch brake grrr.. -DDoyle don
After just getting off the phone with a tech support guy at a VERY WELL respected winch manufacturer, and giving him the run down on what this debate is...he told me some very interesting industry wide winch FACTS.
-if the winch's gearset is...
RE: Re: RE: Winch brake grrr.. -DDoyle don
Ryan, on the top passenger side of the winch there a little handle that should be seated in a weird looking notched nut. That, when seated in the deepest notch, should be engaged in dimples in the side of the spool...sort of like a detent. When you...
RE: Re: RE: Winch brake grrr.. -DDoyle don
David, I was just busting your chops. :)
Ace..., I'm familiar with the early Buicks a little, like there under seat heater...I meant the late model plastic fender jobbies.
I pulled a semi tractor back on to the roadway one time where I could...
This is the deuce winch on my M715...so I put it here cause its a deuce-
So all of a sudden my winch is bogging down my 427BBC and there's a really loud singing sound from the winch. I feel around and the front cover is warm and the rest is not. I finish what I need it for and pull the log up...
RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: My Giant 715 got a workout!
Here's a pic of where I've been working and the second is about 1/3 way into a water hole. Pulled five out today varying between 10' and 12'. I'd winch them from where they're laying over to the creek bank then spin around and hook to the pintle...
