Ok.. but if you are measuring that low of a voltage on the front battery, you must have a draw then. Which is probably why sometimes they are dead when you come out.
for 12v... go to the autoparts (any... your favorite works) and get a starter for your year, civvy chevy pickup with the 6.2....
If you really wanna spend the big bucks... look for the gear driven upgrade used in the 90's 6.5's

Honestly, I have had good luck with it. They work great for standard on road driving. Its when you like to do burnouts... or play offroad where they like to fail fast....

The 6.2 generally wont start without glowplugs under about 80°. CC is right... if your glow plugs arent working at all, dont bother starting it until you wire up your manual button. It doesnt take much to do it.
