It should attach to the side of the engine block.... and thats what broke your bolt for sure...

I put a brand new one in, that Autozone listed. it was NOT the right one. The engine NEVER came up to temp, and NEVER got hot. So you tell me? It was a totally different design tstat than the one thats in there now. The correct tstat for the 6.2 looks nothing like a standard small block...

Make sure you buy a REAL 6.2 thermostat!!!! Autozone and the likes claim to have the right one BUT ITS NOT. Go to NAPA or the dealer. The right tstat should run you in the $25 range. If the wrong one is in there, the water pump just forces it open.... (which may be your problem)

I had a drill like that clear me right off the back corner of the M116A1..... was drilling through the deck when it caught. The spinning drill made my hand lock the trigger on its way around, tossed me from the trailer and spun until it yanked the cord out. I had bruises to prove it for a month.

The plugs you want are Wellman 070's. They can be found on ebay at the best price. My temp sensor crapped out about a year ago.... I wired it 'bypassed' and it has been that way ever since. Sad part is.... I have a replacement!!

Sounds like your glow plugs are failing...and you are noticing it more as it cools off outside...
