RE: Weekend
I picked up a 20 ton air-over-hydraulic bottle jack...place it where you want it...stand back and hit the button...up she goes. Since these trucks have air, why not save yourself some grief?
I also carry some 4x4 blocks in the back just in case I need them for exactly what Kenny...
Cool...good luck on getting it home!
I would still bring some batteries just in case...a few cheapies from Wal-Mart just to get you home. Remember, the charging system is not meant to charge up completely flat batteries...that will take some time. Best to bring in some fresh ones so you can...
Once you get the frame number, you can get a proper dataplate made up with the proper numbers stamped on them, and all will be well. Once the numbers match, the rest is pretty minor as the parts are pretty much all the same after the first few years these trucks were made.
mvdataplates.com...
There are several shades of green that these trucks were painted in, depending on branch of service, year of service (era you are trying to replicate) and general color (camo, semi-gloss OD, etc). Are you wanting CARC style paint? Just a simulated finish?
Maybe a bit more information about...
David Doyle wrote a great article called "Ran when parked" for Military Vehicles Magazine in the Feb 2008 edition. See if you can get a copy of that magazine either from a someone on this site, or order it from them directly (it's a good magazine...you should subscribe anyways). Goes over a...
IMHO: Stick a modern big-block or V-10 in it...keep it a gasser, but with a modern 502 GM or V-10 Ford engine with a nice 5 or 6 speed auto tranny. Tons of power, decent-ish mileage (compared to the stocker) and good reliability. Overdrive...maybe automatic tranny...nice. Plus parts would be...
RE: Re: RE: Where is my coolant going?
OK...a bit of online research....looks like the bolts are not re-usable on the 6.2/6.5 (several posts in different diesel forums seem to confirm this). Not sure if they are truly TTY, but either way, it looks like they are junk once used (maybe this is...
Re: RE: Where is my coolant going?
Agreed with FMJ...including the part about the 06 GTO. :)
Small world....you on the ls2gto.com site?
*ahem*...anyways...back on topic:
I thought the TTY stuff came in much later. Most of the diesel engines I've ever seen have had the older style bolt or...
RE: Herculiner
I did it to my 97 Wrangler many years ago...went on great and was *very* tough. You might need to re-apply in the foot-well areas after a year or two (it does wear down), but this is a simple touch-up process.
Mask off the areas you don't want the liner getting in (including...
RE: brake lights
Yes, it will open up the system...you'll need to bleed the brakes once you're done with the switch.
Now would be a good time to do a complete brake inspection, and replace any parts that might be leaking or cracked. Look at your brake lines and slave cylinders and check for...
Pull the heads and have them magna-fluxed...that'll tell you for sure. Check the gaskets carefully when the head is off...usually (not always) you can see where the leak was. If it's the block, you can magna-flux that too, but I usually use a dye process if it's still in the vehicle.
Then...
Welcome!
Definitely a USAF truck....that Airdrome sticker is a dead giveaway (plus it's the right color!). :) Looks nice and straight.
I hope you stick with the USAF blue...everyone paints theirs camo. Whatever you do, make it yours.
